Fender Flares: How to Reinstall?

I'm installing a curt trailer hitch on my 2009 r56s, and I've encountered a problem as I put the car back together. I can't figure out how the fender flare clips should be reattached. I'll attach pictures to show the clip in question, it's on the rear fender flare, both sides.

Does anyone have any advice on how to reattach the fender to these clips? To remove them, I pulled the fender flare away and towards the rear of the car, but I'm having no luck doing the opposite to reinstall.

Position or tape the clips to the plastic fender flare, then just push the clip into the hole on the body

You have to remove those clips from the car and install them onto the flare. Then pop the fender flare back on. Make sure you haven't ripped the mounting location on the flare itself.

+1 remove the clips and then reinsert them. Check the back off the flare so you did not rip off the molded in mount for the clips.

R56 R57 stock wheel arches.
