R56 New owner...few questions
New owner...few questions
Hey all
I just picked up a 2011 base model.
Love it so far. Even the base has some punch....esp. in sport mode. Handling is great and obviously mpg is incredible.
Ive been educating myself here and there and toying with all the setting and functions.
Only problems that im having so far is that the service check is saying its time for a brake fluid change and I cant get the TPMS light to go out. Ive searched on this forum about both of these issues. However, alot of the responses are just "take it to the dealer". Well, I bought the car 5 days after warranty expired....haha....obviously didnt know that. And we all know that the dealers are a total ripoff when not under warranty.
So with that said....I dont really have a problem doing the brake fluid myself, but Im just curious what something like that would cost if I had it done.
As far as the tpms light....I have tried to reset it multiple times and followed the instructions to a tee. It stays on the speedo indicator solid yellow and pops up as inactive on the tach every so often. From what Ive read, this is due to either a faulty sensor or the wrong kind of sensor. The car just had 4 brand new tires put on....so I think maybe they just did something wrong when mounting?
Any idea what the dealer would charge for this? If not the dealer, who else would I take this too? A tire shop?
Ive never had tire sensors so am not familiar with them. The tires are obviously fine....is there a way to just disable the TPMS?
Thnx for the help. Look forward to your replies.

Most of what you are looking for can also be found in the car's owners manual.
TMPS, there is a little trick... From a stand still with the engine running, press your TPMS button, then go drive around a bit. It can take up to 15 or 20 minutes for the light to go off. If the light doesn't go off, it is time to take it in to your favorite mechanic and have them check to make sure the proper TPM sensors are installed in your wheels. (There is a difference between the GEN1 and Gen2 sensors, and yes you can have both in if you swap tires from multiple cars) As far as I know there is no way to disable the light. (you could pull the fuse but you would have to check to see if the fuse powers anything else)
Brake Fluid is recommended to be replaced every two(2) years, I normally just have it done when I have the large service. But if you do it yourself, no issue if you have a power bleeder.
I do a lot of the maintenance on my cars myself, when I don't have the time or the parts available on hand I have a favorite shop I take them to and let them sort it out.
Best of luck.
