Castrol 0W-40

Of course, Mobil1 is one of the best and approved for BMW/MINI that Walmart sells for $23 for 5qt jug. The GC 0w-40 came out in 2013 and still quite new but shows that it 'meets/exceeds' BMW LL01 and A3/B4.

I know that there are other high quality oil like Amsoil and Royal Purple. But their price is a bit much if I change my oil around 5-6k miles.

So, has anyone used the new GC and Mobil1? If so, how does the new GC 0w-40 feel compared to Mobil1 or MINI Oil (MINI Oil is really the GC at 5w-30). I read GC quiets the engine more than Mobil1 but have not seen many feedbacks from MINI owners.
I know this is an old thread, and everybody has n opinion, but I'll just share my experience with you.

I bought my '09 MCS used with 55K on the clock. The previous owner used Mobil1 and I think he was getting a little nervous about the mileage, and the engine was a little noisy. At the first opportunity, I changed to Castrol 0W-40 European formula, and the engine instantly quieted down, plus I wasn't experiencing oil losses like when I bought the car, even though I expected them.

The Mobil website says that their oil doesn't meet the LL-01 spec, so even though people swear by it, I don't know why they would put it in their car.

That's my two cents. Hope it has some worth.

Same experience as the previous poster with my 2011 Clubman Justa, was a CPO that only used the OEM BMW/MINI oil until after warranty. Switching to Castrol 0w40 removed my oil burn issue that was occurring since I bought the car at 35K miles. At 88K miles now and 18K miles past CPO NEXT warranty w/o the previous 1 quart top off every 6-8K miles. The car also runs much smoother and doesn't have the rough idle on extremely cold mornings here in the SF bay area.

I stay away from Mobil 1 0w40 since it caused rough starts with my E46 ZHP back when I tried it for 1 cycle of oil changes. Switched back to 0w30 GC which I've always used and it removed the rough start issue. Good for topping off but not as the main oil if you can't find the German Castrol.

I've been wedded to Castrol through 9 MGBs.

I've been using the Castrol Euro 0-40 from the beginning with my 2009 base and it used virtually no oil.

Change oil and filter every 3-5K miles and your engine will last way longer!

If you buy a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 at Walmart you get a $10 gift certificate/card.
I used the 0W40 in my R56 and M1 always had some kind of rebate going on. Several times I bought it for $23-$25 for a 5qt jug and got a $12 rebate per jug. Still have 2 jugs, but can't run it in the F56. I'll probably take it to MOTD and sell it.

My first oil change is coming too. I can get Royal Purple for 7$ more than Moble 1 is it worth it? Has anyone heard of Liqui Moly?

I don't have any experience with RP oil, but Liqui-Moly is a great oil if you can get it for a good price, IMHO.
