So I started my car this morining, and i put the gear selector into reverse. The car shutters and the gear exclimation light pops up. I take my foot off the gas and the car moves and then violently stops. It seems to move fine in first gear but it sounds like the transmisson. Also to note the gas level in the car is suuuuper low, would that cause the car to do weird things?

Super low fuel level should not affect the transmission.

Sounds like your gearbox is borked. Might be a relatively simple fix, but might also be very expensive. If you don't have a code reader, have the car towed to a shop that has a good one. (BMW or MINI specific.) Don't drive it; you may turn a simple fix into a very expensive one.
