R56 Spill in Cupholder
Spill in Cupholder
2007 R56 S,
I had a cup spill in the cupholder. It was significant amount of cola in there but I did clean it out in a matter of a minute or so. I have heard horror stories about leaks here frying electronic components or leaking into the CVT or whatever else. I do have to say that upon cleaning it I noticed there was still a pretty serious build-up of gunk around the screw where it connected to the cupholder (just that general buildup if you ever throw change in a cupholder). I'm hoping that gunk prevented much of the soda from leaking through.
Anyway, what should I be on the lookout for if anything bad is going to happen now?

If it will become a problem it will happen soon. What's done is done and hope for the best.
Not sure about the leaking into the CVT as you don't have one but the issue will likely be a shifter gear indicator light or lockout device if you have an auto.

Well
Yeah, I guess it will be hard to ruin a part my car doesn't have!
But I wonder what other important stuff is lurking under my cupholder , just waiting for an odd mishap. :-) I guess at least it wasn't hot coffee, which could have been more likely to ruin stuff.

your sport and stability control buttons are in the neighborhood .... but the bottom of the cup holder is lower so unlikely the fluid ran up .... but not impossible
the screws you see in the cup recesses are part of the hold down for the entire console. If you pull all the screws you can lift the console up a bit w/out removing it .. this will give you a look around and see if there's anything more you can clean up.
If it was sugar soda you'll want to clean up the mess as it could draw ants or get moldy. If it was diet soda . . .
