Hi everyone, i just purchased a 2009 mini, auto, base 1.6L model that has a burned motor due to overheating. basically the cooling system had a leak and the engine overheated beyond repair. So i'm looking for a new engine. I've done a lot of swaps in Japanese Imports (Nissan, Toyota, Honda) and this is my first foray into Euro's. Really excited to become a mini owner and take on this project.

My question is on engine compatibility between years. Will the base, 1.6L motor from a newer Mini fit in my 2009? I have a buddy who has a 2012 base model and he's considering upgrading to the turbo version, so if his engine will fit, that might be a donor!
