Sport Package?

I bought a used '12 MCS R56 last year, one of the options it has is the 'Sport Package'. Was curious what that included and found this on MotorTrend -

Sport Package - $1,250
Includes: [5DT] Dynamic Traction Control And [522] Xenon Headlamps (includes Power Washers) And [785] White Turn-Signal Lights And [2GD] 17" Alloy Wheels, Conical Spoke

It does have the xenon lamps and 17" wheels. But Headlamp Power Washers? How is that supposed to work?

the headlamp washer will be turn on automatically after you have use the windscreen washer a couple times. It will be more significant if you use it in pitch dark and headlamp on, then there will be a mystrious mist coming from the front of the car, thats the headlamp washer.

So, something sprays out from the front of the headlight and cleans it?

Yup small spray arms pop out and wash the lights with a burst of washer fluid. It's the chrome inner parts of the lights.

Ha! I just told my wife about this (is her mini), she now wants to see this in action. I assume it doesn't spray all time, probably in concert when I hit the windshield with washer fluid?

I believe you have to hold the washer spray for a few seconds and it triggers the headlamp washers.

If you have the headlight washer it's activated every couple of sprays of the windshield washer. If you have the sport package you don't necessarily have the headlight washer, even though its listed as part of the package. It is actually a free addition to the sport package only if its selected when ordering the car. My first Mini a 2011 MCS has the sport package and doesn't have the headlight washer. I bought the car off the lot and the dealer didn't select the option, even though its free. I went round and round with them about it thinking that it was part of the package. My JCW has the option. I'm not really sure if I like it. It sprays all over the front of the car.

^ +1 not part of the sport package...I also saw no need for them even though they were free - just makes a mess... especially on a black car

I have a 2013 MCS with sport package it does have xenon but does not have the washers. I will second the thought of not liking them from previous cars that had them just a mess and pointless. .

2011 MCS with the sport package and no headlight washers here. I'm kind of glad, as they seem to be a waste of washer fluid.

The headlamp washer is required by law in europe if u have xenon. Prevent dazzling to other road user by dirty lens.

I thought the headlight washers were a fuction of "do you have Xenons" or not...

Oh - operation if you have them: On first sustained use of widshield washers (1-2 seconds or more) the headlight washers operate. The windshield washers will now operate alone for about 5 times and/or some undefined time frame before another sustained use of the windshield wahers triggers the headlight wadhers... Yes they do go through loads of washer fluid. I used a case (16 l) this winter, and about 6l each summer. Short bursts of fluid will prevent the headlight washers from triggering, but will only help properly clean the windshield if the car is stopped and there is no wind to blow the overspray away. It takes some practice, can be annoying, but probably saved me 8 litres of washer fluid this winter alone!

U are right, the headlamp washer is part of the xenon lights, you cant have that in halogens.

Don't know if you have already seen it in action (probably!), but here goes a video of it.
