Tpms woes

I just put a new set of 18" "Status Fang" Chrome and black wheels and non-run flats on my "Mayfair" S and the new Oro-Tek TPMS valve stem caps rub the rear calipers. I have Wilwood big brake calipers and rotors on all four corners. I was told to order TPMS Wheel Bands and mounting brackets with "Stubby" valve stems to correct this problem. This essentially mounts the TPMS monitor INSIDE the wheel and therefore still keeps the system intact. Has anyone else done this?

I've installed OEM TPMS sensors on aftermarket wheels without any issues, but there is no physical way for them to rub on the calipers.
OEM TPMS sensor is installed on the inside of the wheel, held in place by a special valve stem: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...jsp?techid=152

If your wheel rubs the calipers, it has nothing to do with TPMS and most likely means that either it's not large enough to clear the calipers (unlikely with 18" wheels), or the wheel has wrong offset for your application. Under most circumstances, you could move the wheels spokes further away from the calipers with spacers.

It hard to say how large of a spacer you will need, or whether adding them will push the wheel too far outboard and put the tire in contact with the fender. In which case you are SOL.

Stem fix

Thank you for your response. It was my other option. My first option and the one that worked was to change the valve stem cap from chrome to plain jane black rubber. Since the place where I bought my wheels from did not take into account that the rear Wilwood calipers were different from the front ones, they sold me an offset of +42. The fronts clear but the backs didn't. However I am looking into getting spacers anyway for a more aggressive stance.

a while ago, Ford held it's TPMS sensors to the wheel using a band, but that is before the stem mounted version became reliable and popular. It was probably around 2005 or 2006 that this happened. As long as the band will securely hold the sensor, and the tire installer is careful, there should not be any issues with using a band if the spacers are not an option.
