Heat not working

Okay everyone looking for some help.
I live in CT and my heat hadn't been working for the last week or so, and it's 16 degrees today.
The heat comes on and off while driving at highway speeds, but off the highway it blows cold air no matter what setting I try.
Anybody have any suggestions to check before I bite the bullet and take it to the dealer? Just can't stand having no heat with 15 degree weather

Sounds like you have a leak in the thermostat housing and there is not enough coolant to pump through the heater core. I have linked below areas to check out.

Check to make sure your interior Fan works ( you can hear it blowing ) sounds like it works based on the cold air and the heater button is turned all the way to hot ( red ). Also make sure your MINI does not overheat since you are low on coolant.

Thanks and hope that helps.

Check your coolant level! If expansion tank is empty you will not get heat until you are moving. Mine uses some coolant but I had cracked Water pump. If lt's empty you may have other issues. Check to see if you have any drips of coolant Under the passenger Side of the engine bay.

Thanks for the replies, my coolant level is good and I have yet to have the yellow over heating light come on
I haven't noticed any leaks but I will be sure to check more closely
The aux water pump was replaced during the recall, does anyone know if they extended the warranty for the thermostat?

Forgot to put what car I have.. 2010 S with 68500 on the clock

Check coolant level as mentioned above, another issue might be that your thermostat is not working properly (might be stuck open) if the thermostat is stuck open the coolant will constantly cycle through the engine and into the radiator therefore not allowing the coolant to heat up and stay in the heater core hence why you have no heat.

Get it checked out if you dont know how to do it your self because once the weather gets warm your car wills start to overheat with a bad thermostat.

Actually, if it stays stuck open, it will continue to max cool the engine all the time and wont overheat.

But it does sound like a stuck thermostat, and the only solution is replacing it.

Unfortunately, MINI decided to integrate the $10 thermostat into a $90 plastic housing, so you will be buying and replacing both:
