It would be nice to have multiple steering and throttle response setting in the setup menu options, along with auto on sport mode...

Sport mode all the time except for slippery conditions -- like the ice that's on the roads right now!

Can you explain/detail this?

I drive w/Sport mode in part because I hate the 1st gear pull away..

(I also run it because it keeps the car cooler..)

Oh, and I like the pop.

And the heavy steering..

Ok, I just drive with it on all the time. Same thing with Traction mode.

I can totally understand the pop and running cooler. Mine doesn't do that however. :'(

Unfortunately I'm too dumb to explain how it works...something about a spring and another thingy ma jiggy. Here's the description from his site:

"This valve is a direct replacement for the stock blow off valve that recirculates the boost. It has a stronger spring and actuator allowing it to open and close faster than the standard valve. This will allow you to build boost faster and on deceleration dump it faster. This will help eliminate turbo surge. For the price you can't go wrong."

and then there are a ton of reviews, this is the most heavily reviewed product on his page that I've come across. nothing but positives:

Does anyone find that sport mode impacts your gas mileage?

Dan, check with way first. They recommend the forge valves for N18s.

So, explain how sport mode makes a base Mini perform better? Turbo accessories can't help.

With the auto transmission it mostly just changes the shift points and steering. Not sure what it does with the manual justa?

Same as with the turbo. Changes steering and throttle mapping.

Is there a difference in pressing the sport button and moving the shift lever to sport in an automatic?

Thank You

OK, this was me for the first month until I finally caught up in the forums here and gave it a try. Worked like a champ, save the odd high rev starts... then I got the JCW engine kit from Santa... the MA said that if I used sport before, to keep on using it... but to be honest, the kit completely changed the nature of this car, and I haven't used it since...

anyone use it on upgraded/modded cars? curious if the changes still feels the same...

I have been curious about this as well. I am guessing the exhaust pop is achieved by firing an injector on the exhaust stroke. Can anyone confirm? Measurable reduction in mileage due to this when running Autosport module or simply because you're mashing the go pedal all the time?

I've been driving standard shift vehicles my entire driving life (16 years) and have never had such a difficult time starting/shifting smoothly than with a MINI.

I love sport mode for ripping around town, but keep it shut off for winter driving. I don't need a hotter throttle response when I'm sliding around in the snow. Also, I usually shut it off for freeway driving. It seems kinda pointless when you're cruising at a steady 75 mph...

Funny you should say that! I learned to drive on a manual transmission (a full-size 1970 Jeep pickup -- definitely not mini!) and have been driving mostly manuals since 1971. When I bought my MCS, it had been 10 years since my last manual, and I felt almost as if I was learning for the first time. Maybe the clutch takeup is more abrupt than I was used to, but it took me a few weeks to get my finesse back.

As far as I know the Sport button on an auto affects steering, throttle mapping and transmission shift points. Putting the shift lever into Sport only affects the transmission.

So from another thread I gleaned that Sport mode also lowers the engine temperature set point, at least for the 2013 N18 engine on the R56. In Sport mode, the set point is lower (cooler engine). I'm testing right now, but as I almost always drive in Sport mode, that might explain why my engine temps are always on the low side (under 90C most of the time).

For my 2013 MCS:

SPORT OFF --> 220F coolant temp
SPORT ON --> 175F coolant temp

Multistage thermostat. Also will open the '185' valve when you are driving hard and on max AC.

Sound correct, though I usually see 185F and 227F

Is there any harm in running all the time at the lower temperature? If it's beneficial then why not have it run at that temperature all the time.

Fuel efficiency. You should get better mileage at the higher temp.

Lower temps can give you a little better knock protection.
