Am I missing a bolt here?

Hi all

While I was doing transmission oil change another day, and upon looking around under the car, I came across an empty bolt hole on the bottom of transmission case.

Please see this photo:

Any thoughts? Can I just put a bolt back since no leak found? I'm OOW btw.

Have you had the car since new? I can't remember if we had a bolt there when we did the diff install or not. Chances are if it's been driving fine it isn't a big deal even if one is missing. Have someone press the clutch pedal and if you can't see the trans case separate from the engine then you're probably good. There is like 8 bolts holding the transmission and motor together.

For peace of mind, I'd just put another bolt in the hole. If you know the size and thread pitch, you can pick up a suitable replacement at any auto parts store and most hardware stores.

eh, for piece of mind, i would confirm that a bolt is actualy supposed to be there before putting one in.

if there isnt supposed to be a bolt there.....there isnt supposed to be a bolt there for a reason.....

also, in the event there is supposed to be a bolt there.....i would find the actual grade of bolt that is supposed to be there., dont just run up to the hardware store and grab something off the shelf

....i know it seems like something petty, but using the wrong grade of bolt can be potentially very dangerous depending on how the engineers desgned it.

Thanks for all your comments.

I got this car 3 years ago as preowned, it had warranty by then and never had transmission repair according to history.

Car drives fine other than clutch seems slips a bit. I will try to get replace bolt from mini dealer.

I just got off the phone with my local dealer, they told me there is no bolt for that bolt hole. So nothing to concern. :-)
