ignition problem - key fob got stuck

I went to turn on my car this afternoon and the key fob didn't engage in the slot well so I pulled it out and it appears that the tray the fob rests in is pushed back. I've tried to put it back into place but no luck. I've got no power to anything (can't even open the hood oddly) so it's like the car is completely dead. I had driven it for a few minutes earlier and everything seemed completely fine. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Signed up for a track day this Friday I don't want to miss.

If you push the receptacle in with your finger, does it unlock and pop out all the way? Just curious,

Happened to me before, the battery died and it locked the key in. Please check your battery that it has at least 12+ volts and that the terminals are one tight. Failing that remove the plus terminal leave it disconnected for a few minutes then reconnect.

@Spridget - Nope it doesn't move...like it's locked in place. The odd thing about it was that my hood release handle is completely locked to, so I really couldn't check the battery. I tugged at it but nothing. I ended up having the car towed to my mechanic and hopefully it is something as simple as a dead battery. Sure glad I got AAA.

It was a loose battery terminal. Phew!

The fact that the hood release wouldn't work was a coincidence but the shop was able to get it open. I probably over reacted but really thought I broke something. FYI, it's $600 plus for a new ignition/key set. That's just the parts and not labor.
