R56 34 actual mpg
If I inferred something from your post that wasn't there, my bad. Your point is the important one.... don't downshift through the gears as you're coming to a normal stop as it adds expensive clutch/transmission wear for only a minor decrease in relatively cheap brake wear.

zuyzuy, you may need to reset your MPG gauge. There are two, at least on my 2012. One is "instant MPG", the other is "cumulative MPG". The latter is the total since whenever the reading was last reset. Which in your case, may have been when the car was built at the factory. In that case, it would take one heck of a lot of driving to move the average much--especially if you have a lot of miles on it.

2010 Justa, manual. Daily driver: 5 mile city commute plus 'recreational' driving:
30.1k total miles / 831.6 total gallons = 36.2 mpg average over 3 years.
That's 74 fill-ups: worst tank was 32 mpg, best tank was 45 mpg.
I'm no hyper-miler - sometimes it goes like a scalded cat - but I do hate to use the brakes. The brake pedal is scientifically designed to turn $4/gal premium gasoline into hot air.

Holy crap! In case you're interested, (I'm really not...lol), lifetime average of 31.4mpg. 2010 MCS with the sport mode always on.
But really, I don't care! My last car, (a 2001 Audi A6 Avant) was lucky to avg 20 mpg...
Now, it gets low, I fill it up. I have no desire to try to get ANY extra gas mileage. I just don't care...lol

I posted this earlier this year, but am still thrilled with it...I took my 2012 Justa manual across Michigan's Upper Peninsula and back in July. Put the cruise on 60 (speed limit is 55). I made it 634 miles on a tank with about 20 miles left on the computer (filled up in the same gas station in St. Ignace). 49+ mpg and still a fun trip (had some good roads up in the Keewanaw Peninsula.
How many of you guys are on fuelly?? Does there seem to be any discernible difference in MPG between the 07-10 and the 11-13 engines for base coopers?
I'm on Fuelly. Look for the name of my car, "Fenimore".
I'm probably a little bit atypical of MINI drivers, though.
(And I still wish I could have gotten the MINI D instead of the Justa. Or maybe even the MINI One; that could have been an interesting exercise!)

2007 MCS. City 29-30mpg consistent with AC normal driving. Hway 33-34. Best I ever got was 34.4 to Denver and back with no AC freeway at 80mph. I'm impressed with the Justa numbers here. I wonder what the new Justa F56 with the turbo 3 cylinder will get. Could be interesting because Mini always says it's improving mileage as a goal.
42-44 mpg road trip
I just took a 3,200 mile road trip (four days) from Michigan to/from southern Florida and averaged 42-44 mpg for each tank. Tried to stick to 5-7 mph over speed limits of 65-70. 2012 Justa manual. Slightly less in the West Virginia/Virginia hills.
I know this is a topic with many factors contributing to your MPG but I don't understand how people who drive hard still manage 30 MPGs where I'm only squeaking out 22-24 (just over 300mi per tank roughly) with the sport button off (98% of the time) for the last few fill-ups to see if I could get high 20's atleast. I'm due for an oil change soon at the dealer, is the low MPG's worth mentioning as in will they really do anything diagnosis wise? If it matters I have a 2010 Cooper S Manual with stock tires at 38psi and 13k miles.
What grade gas are you using? You should be getting close to 30mpg, especially since your tire pressure is good. I do my oil changes every 6K miles. I found that my MPG would go down near the end if I tried to do oil changes every 8K miles. Synthetic oil, yes?
93 currently from either Citgo or Shell. I'm just approaching my first oil change which I'm going to have the dealer do. I bought it certified from a Mini dealer (so I assume synthetic is currently in it) and have the service plan and extended warranty which is why I thought I might mention it to the dealer. I do mostly city which I know yields a lower MPG but whats stinks is I'm not driving hard (enjoying it) because if I'm going to get possibly lower than 22-24 MPG I might as well go back to DD my 500+whp Evo lol
