First, hi and welcome...

Second, why does it need a engine?

Third, I've seen used engines on Fleebay for about $2500, Or you can check out Car-part.com. A reman from MINI will be about $6500...

Timing chain broke, so I am trying to decide whether to fix it, sell it as is, or put in a used motor, or re manufactured factory unit.

If the valves collided with the pistons you're better off with a used or re-man engine.

TJ @ Detroit Tuned might be able to get you a better price for a reman engine than $6500.

I say rebuild it with stronger pars. Shouldn't cost more than a regular used engine.

Boston area

Talk to the mechanics at http://www.greasysgarage.com/. They are well spoken of by the people on massmotoringclub.com (Greasy's does sponsor the forum). You would have to get the car to Worcester. I would be talking to them if I were in the same situation.
