R56 Engine Swap
As far as I can tell, yes. It is the same base chassis and the mounting points and such should be exactly the same. Maybe someone else can say definitively but it should based on the chassis design being the same. I can put a 2004 supercharged Cobra motor in a 95 Mustang GT with no motor mount modifications, different body style, same chassis.
You may have issues with electronics - not sure if those are all the same. I'd also expect potential issues with the turbo and the exhaust system. I would think none of the potential issues would be difficult to deal with. You simply may need to spend additional $$ on parts you didn't think of immediately.
I have swapped a JCW engine into my 2008 MCS. No issues in doing it mechanically and no issues with the ECU. The ECU adjusted itself to recognize that the new engine was a JCW. So go for it my friend!
This is an N18 out of a 2011... Can anyone say completely sure whether my ecu will control it? Also, this engine is complete, except for the turbo....
Can I use my regular turbo or should I look for a jcw turbo? I am open to aftermarket as well. Also, is the emissions stuff any different?

hello i just swap my cooper s engine with a jcw 2009 engine and evrything is fine with my ecu...the turbo is almost the same from the outside but from the inside provide more boost and power so its better to go full jcw so buy an aftermarket jcw turbo or some other brand...the only issue a have is that i need an aftermarket exhaust because the boost does not flow smooth...

In the USA N18 was standard starting on the 2011 MCS...I'm not sure the exact date when the JCW went N18. Either way no matter what any MCS/JCW from 2007-2010 is N14.
The thing to remember is that the 2007-2012 JCW was still N14.
Not sure when N18 began use in the JCW in 2013? Maybe someone else can help with that one.

I spoke to a guy at Detroit tuned, he said that, yes, this motor (jcw) was an n14 (good for compatibility!) and it should hook right up.
So I think I'm going to buy it!
Now, while I am in there....
I am thinking of doing a GPop hybrid or just throwing a different turbo altogether in... Any suggestions?
I will have the stock MCS air box, and Jcw exhaust manifold. Plugs and everything are jcw. My budget for supporting mods is around $1500.

if you change to jcw engine you will need cai, downpipe and exhaust too for sure and im speaking from my experience with my mini...if you your budget is 1500 for mods then you can build a very good mini...when you finish with the car tell us how it goes..
