Homelink Rear View Mirror Install

I've read a lot of conflicting info in the forums about this and wanted to see if I could get a definitive one.

Anyone out there install a Auto-dimming Rear view mirror with Homelink to replace a manual dimming mirror? I just bought a 2013 R56 and it appears there is a pinout in my manual mirror. I installed the new mirror but nothing appears to work. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I think you need to add some pins to provide power to the mirror since there wasn't any beforehand. I know in my E90 I did the same retrofit and there is a harness available that hooks up the power through the correct pins. However, I'm not sure if there is one available for the cooper s.

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying there was a retrofit kit for your vehicle? Or do you think this is something I can do myself?

There was a retrofit harness supplied by BMW i believe (I bought it from someone on another forum) that was about $20, and it had the extra wires needed to power the additional functions. Looking at the thread here it doesn't look like there is an official retrofit kit so you'd have to do the wiring yourself. BigOly seems to be the user that got it to work so maybe contact him for more info.

I must of gotten lucky. I took a Homelink mirror and auto dimming mirror from a 2007 MCS and installed in my 2012 MCS which had auto dimming and comfort access and it was plug and play. It is the comfort access which gave it the wire it needed?

The buttons don't work unless the engine is started btw.

I'd like to get a simple straightforward answer regarding this for those who aren't mechanics or electricians. Can anyone help?

I would love to be able to add this to my 09 MCS. I have HL in my Land Rover, and not having it in the MINI is making me bonkers. I keep reaching up at my dome light as I approach my garage, but the switch just isn't there :(
