Highway noise from closed driver side window

I have a 2009 Justa (23K miles) and there is a noticeable noise from the driver side window when it is closed and while driving at highway speeds. The noise sounds like a constant "shhhhhhhh" and seems to be coming from the back of the window. It is faint but always there once on a highway. There is no such noise from the passenger side window when you are sitting in the passenger seat. The driver window drops down when you open the door and goes up when you close the door without issues. The glass appears to seam well against the rubber gasket and this gasket is in good condition.

I thought maybe it is "normal" but then I got the loaner r56 and it had no such noise.

Is there anything that I can troubleshoot myself? I just had the dealer fix the Sunroof rattle (sunroof was aligned) and the Tach rattle (new tach was installed) so I can probably go back for this issue as well, but they might just say it's "normal" and I would like to see if there is anything that I can do myself first.

I had the same problem. The gasket sealed correctly, but I still got the wind noise from my driver-side door. I just got a little bit thicker gasket and now the noise is gone.

So even if it LOOKS like it is sealed, it may have a slight gap that causes that annoying wind noise.

Did you buy/install the gasket yourself? Could you tell me where you got a "thicker" gasket?

I bought some vehicle weatherstripping (by 3M) at the local O'Rielly's auto parts. It's a self adhesive so it's a pretty straight forward fix once you have it.

Is the window straight on the gasket from the side. The window itself at the bottom where it meets the window regulator can be adjusted slightly. The window mount on the glass part can be moved around on the mounts by millimeters. Possible it could be off a hair and not sealing with the gasket?

Can you take a picture up close?

Picture of glass.

I can take the picture - could you clarify what you'd want to see? Window closed/door closed? I guess I am not understanding how the picture can be taken to show the gap.

Just wanted to make sure the widow is aligned correctly , best when its closed and at the seam where you believe its not sealed. Also large Picture of the were the front window aligns with the rear B pillar. That's just in front of the side rear glass.

Thanks

I had this problem also with my 2011 - I think the aerodynamics of the car make it more apparent at speed. My dealer replaced the window seal under warranty and that solved the problem for me. They may have adjusted the window as well, but if so they didn't tell me about it.

You can test how well the window seals against the gasket by closing the door with a dollar bill between the glass and gasket - if you can easily pull it out with the door closed (and the window up), then the fit isn't snug enough. You'll probably find a spot about 4 to 6 inches long, about halfway up the back edge of the window (along the B-pillar) that doesn't seal tightly. That's where it was on my car, and a couple of others I've seen.

My 09 Justa has a similar issue but the noise is from the sunroof, which is VERY noisy with wind noise. My door gaskets seem ok.

So I did the dollar bill test and mine is not sealing properly at the B pillar. How do you adjust the window for a tight seal? Can you buy the seals? How much? Thanks

If your window is straight on the seam with the B - pillar, then you can get a new seal. IF not then you can adjust it with a tool. A MINI dealership or anyone with the ability to align panels can do.

Bpilliar between #2 and #3

For adjustment
*There are two mounts on the bottom of the window at the meeting of the regulator to the glass , they look like little gears and take a special MINI window tool. * Looking at the window on the side of you MINI with the door closed = in essence you can move the window left, right, up , and down by a small amount. But not toward on inward to the car. * Unless you are able to do some mechanicals I would leave this to someone who can repair windows.

Or if its straight: You can get a new seal , we have them here.

OEM MINI Part : 51767151383 Left ( passenger side ) Fits All R50 R53 & R56 hardtops

Thanks and I hope that helps, let me know if you guys need anything else.

I tried the dollar bill test and yes, it can be easily pulled out by the B pillar on the driver side. However, it can be just as easily pulled out on the passenger side and there is no noise issue on that side. I think I will have the dealer look at it before my warranty expires in April.

I had this with my 2008. I took it to the dealer and they discovered the lifter wasn't adjusted right. They took the door trim off, adjusted and ........problem solved. That was 5 years ago and no further problems have occurred.
