I would agree the S has more horse not denying that but gotta say my mini has plenty and I am loving it the more I have it. I do have s friend with the s and they sId the next one they are going with the base engine because they dont like so much jerkyness around town. I have the toffee leather which makes me feel as good on the inside as staring at my car on the outside and maximizing my volume on my hk. For 30k plus before the extended warranties and dealer adds I dont consider my mini justa anything but a darn nice car

I love that thing, has a DDM intake as well!

I presume a review of the ddm on my car wouldn't really count lol.

Yeah I got flipped off too today, some jackass was trying to get in my one lane but he never signaled or made the attempt til last second. I just think in my head, do I need a GT-R or GT500 to get some respect on the damn road.

Anyways, I've owned a Cooper and now a Cooper S, both have been amazing in their own way. Just curious to the person that said "I HATE fake hood scoops", what are you talking about? It's not fake? There's air that goes in through the engine compartment. Sorry buddy, it's not a Honda Civic toyed around by kids.

Also what I loved about my old 08' Cooper, I averaged almost every other tank over 600 miles!!! In my MCS I average about 450-480 miles. Not bad, but I wouldn't trade my "S" in. I'd love to own a MC hardtop in the future and a CM JCW when my family and I settle down.

I love MINI:-)!

"You can't fix STUPID!!"
Driving home tonight I had some POS Nissan or some other small car think they were all that...I saw a car up ahead, I've got my cruise set, and just as I get nose to nose...they take off??!! What is it with MINIs and A-Holes, they come out of the wood work when I'm on the road!!

My question seemed to get lost but about the timing chain issues the early R56 / R55 models have had I'm guessing this is only an issue for the S versions?

The hood scoop on the early 2007 models were actually fake. They were completely blocked and owners took to dremel-ling out holes.

Explains the comment then. Thank you for that knowledge(I took my scoop grill off completely and painted black underneath).

Awesome thank you, my gf may want a R56 Justa but I was worried of the timing chain issues with the earlier ones. This makes me feel much better now.

There is no timing chain issue on the N18 engine turbo models 2011+.

2008 Cooper hatchback.

My MINI dealer replaced a Vanos unit (intake) and chain tensioner because of a CEL. Covered under warranty. Not the same problem as some "S" models have had, but timing-chain related...

Everything A-OK since then.

Honestly, no offense intended, as it may go both ways.
No offense taken at all, my friend.

The manual explains how to pull the pan and change the filter. I was going to do that but decided against it due to the effort involved.

I am not changing the fluid every 10k. My first change was at 112k. Obviously I do not want to go that long again. But I am thinking 30-40k. It's a Toyota transmission (essentially) and they recommend that service interval.

I use the partial change method. You change two quarts, drive some (in my case, 5oo miles, one week) and changed two courts again. I have it down to an art now and I can change two quarts in under an hour and that includes finding tools, cleaning up and test drive.

The first two quart change took me a day and a half. I tried to fill it from the top and it would not go in. You can actually get away with not having the VW tool.
You get a very small vacuum hose and connect it to the hose that connects to the fluid pump. BUT, it is A LOT harder to pump in and it leaks out as you are filling it up.

I have some idea to trade in before I actually pull the pan and change the filter.
or just pay somebody. I'm tired.
