02 sensor in my 07 mini cooper hatchback

The service engine light keeps coming on in my mini saying "increased emissions". I was told I have to replace the front 02 sensor. Will that help and get the light out? Will it give it more power? Sometimes I have to completely put the pedal to the medal before the car moves. The mini also burns oil pretty fast and can't figure out why. Traveling next week to Cumberland from Bel Air and don't want any problems. It has about 145,000 miles on it and I love it. Also looking to buy a new one if anyone has any ideas. (Keeping the 07)

145k miles and blowing oil past it, your O2 sensor is likely done. You won't see a power increase but are likely to see better fuel economy.

Wow! 416888 miles that's awesome! I ordered a new sensor from Whitney yesterday and it is "still processing" so I hope they can send it shortly. Tried to buy it locally and the "managers" price was $215. JC Whitney had it for $145 (Walker brand). If they don't ship it soon I will take you up on the used 02 sensor. How much do you want for it? Thanks

That would be the O2 sensor after the cat. Your cat is also probably bad. Get that checked pronto or your engine might end up like mine.

I'm almost afraid to ask... What happened to your engine? Hopefully I get the sensor soon but I know not going to get it before my 300+ mile round trip to Cumberland... If I need it do you have a used Cat for sale? The car is still getting around 35 mpg but the engine light still keeps coming on. Also any other suggestions to improve power? Thanks in advance

The EGT's got to hot and fried a ring. Your cat could be clogged, or just below efficacy. Judging buy you thinking 300 miles is far, how far do you drive it daily.

I usually drive around 80 miles per day. Last time I made the trip up to Cumberland (before I knew it was leaking/burning oil). It had no power on the hills. Pedal to the medal and wouldn't go anywhere. Had to get out and push :-)

I figured only 41,688 after I thought about it and didn't have my boss breathing down my neck. (Not suppose to be surfing the web) Hopefully the sensor will fix it. Put a computer on it and it said the sensor before the cat. If I need the cat how much you selling that for? It does run better now as long as the oil level is good. I didn't know at the time it was leaking it. Just needs a little more power (not a turbo) and for some reason it switches gears for no apparent reason (automatic) Hopefully I don't need a new transmission??? Love the car and want to take care of it. How much involved to get rid of the oil leak? Think the sensor will fix it? Don't mean to be stupid just don't know much about cars.

I have an 07 mini hard top base model. 2S A Bought it at an auction about 2 years ago and fell in love with it. Gets great gas mileage and is really fun to drive. Actually has navigation in it, voice recognition. No bluetooth even though it has the button.
