Had to happen sometime...

after nearly 7 years of MINI ownership, I finally have my first CEL (half-engine symbol so limp mode). Luckily I'm still within 4/50k on my 09 so Roadside is coming to get me. This is less than 2 months since I had the whole timing assembly replaced and a walnut blast. It drove fine last night so no idea what the issue might be yet. Glad that MINI of Burlington is open now, so they don't have to truck it to Bedford NH or Latham NY. I just turned 40 yesterday, so maybe this is a sign I need a new MINI to celebrate?

I will assume this is your second MINI or your math is way off.

Here's another weird thing...I just had to move the car 10 feet so my wife could go to work, and the boot was popped (I haven't used the boot in 3 days, car was locked this morning) and the "cruise control failed" warning symbol came on, never seen that one before. I wonder if this is electrical due to the cold?? It was 10f here this morning but it's been far colder, down to -15f last week.

Weird! Hope it gets sorted soon. Reading things like this make me glad I opted for the "lowly" Cooper instead of the ***** to the walls Cooper S.

I'm guessing it has something to do with what they did during the repair.

I have read on other threads that weird things happen when the battery is on its way out. Cold weather is not a battery's friend, plus 4 years is not unheard of for replacement. Let us know what the dealer finds.

BTW, you can now get an auto with a factory JCW, since you are thinking of a replacement......

Good luck,
Mike

Dealer said there was ice in the intake manifold and they have ordered a new one, hope to have the car back Friday. Not sure how that explains the cruise control or boot pop but I guess we'll see.

I'm thinking a Coupe for my next MINI, JCW might be a little out of my price range though.

You may want to replace the battery anyway. Just consider it preventative maintenance.

In all honesty the JCW is expensive and the extended warranty cost is outrageous. (But they are fun to drive and there are not a lot of JCW's driving around.)

ok, got it back today. "Moisture in throttle body" is what the paperwork says, they replaced the intake manifold and told me that the part was redesigned a while ago to prevent this from happening. Just over 3000 miles (or 2 months, 17 days) left in warranty.

Anyone know the current build time for a new R56 or 58?
