Some "warranty friendly" mods inquiry

Just curious what some "warranty friendly" mods are for a '13 MCS. I don't want anything that could even bring up an argument to void the warranty as the car is literally brand new.... but I'm already getting the itch to play with it.

Was just curious if anybody else has had any solid experience in a few things.

Maybe I got lucky but, I had an intake, strut bar, FMIC, and catback exhaust when I went in for an oil change and they didn't say a word. Then again I had no issues with the car so there really wasn't a need to question anything.

Now I have a catless downpipe and that little CEL is on....I'm due in 700miles.
That could possibly be a problem. But the car runs fine....who knows, I'll deal with that when the time comes.

I honestly believe they only say anything if you come in with mechanical issues and they see all the mods on the car. If you add an exhaust and say.....your fuel pump goes out...the dealer cannot void your warranty as there is no correlation between those two.
(The aftermarket part.......for most cases, has to be shown that it caused/accelerated the failure of the component).

If you start playing around with things just do it at your own risk. Each dealer is different...some are probably more relaxed about that sort of thing then others.

I think the first thing I want to do is a new intake. Guess I'll just call up the dealer and get some things in writing. Always seems to help.

I've been in a few times, some just for a visit, and haven't had an issue. Actually my MA likes what I have done.

NewCooperFanatic, the Akrapovic Delete R is not cheap but it will solve the CEL problem.

MillerB7, one hint on your intake... DoS
True cold air intake and massive blow off sound!

Good luck on that one, I'm not thinking they are going to agree to put it in writing. . . you can always go with the JCW upgrades they ARE covered

I just went the the JCW intake on my new JCW. (you'd think it'd come that way???)

Just as quiet as stock though - even the upgraded panel filter and boost tube on my last S produced an audible blow off sound. Possibly because it was a convertible but who knows. At least with JCW parts, your dealer cannot fault you for anything extra on the car. Also curious to see if they cover the replacement cone filter during the warranty service period.

I was wondering if the JCW intake was any louder over a stock S intake. I was hoping so.

How does the JCW compare performance gain wise? Also price wise?

This is my daily driver so being a little on the quiet side is perfectly fine with me.

EDIT: I'm sitting in my office and watching my baby get pounded by snow right now... will be the first time I've driven her in snow.

I bought mine from Sewell Mini when they ran a promotion so after the NAM discount plus the sale it was around $240 or so. It came with a filter so I shouldn't have ordered the extra one but you do need the rubber gasket. The panel filter surround serves this function on the standard part.

I do not have any dyno numbers to back up performance claims but most tuners when pressed will admit that it is as good or better than most of the aftermarket stuff. Also, it is a standard part of the JCW tuning kit and my thoughts are that adding parts the customer really can't see must be there for some other reason...
