Headlight help???

I have a 2013 Justa w/ the stock headlights(non HID). Lets just say they are not the best I have ever seen. So just want to see what everyone else used and what worked better. Also what type of bulbs are in the head lights and fogs?

Are those h13s? I have not found too many cheap and good alternatives. Ended up with Phillips bulbs but still don't like them.

Try Hoen Xenon-match - I've had personal experience with them. They are about as good as halogen gets.

all your bulb sizes can be found in the owner's manual and are available at most auto supply stores. Nothing is "MINI unique"

for example, page 158 of the 2011 owners manual

Halogen low-beam and high-beam
headlights
H4 bulb, 60/55 watts

pg 160

Changing fog light bulb
H8 bulb, 35 watts

when I was unhappy with the headlights on my 02-S I put in SilverStars and was very happy with the improvement.

Note that there are several different SilverStar 'models' with their Ultra claiming the most output. You can probably find these in any decent auto part store

Over the years folks here have sometimes complained about Silverstar, esp wrt short life but mine lasted for 4 years at which point I sold the car. I was happy enough with them in the MINI to subsequently switch in my Honda and Miata too..... ULTRA's go on 'sale' routinely

The sylv' site does not list a SilverStar in H8 size tho. They do have a 'standard bulb' in that size but no reason to suspect it is much brighter.

Try aiming the lights down a little and a little outboard for each light (that is, the driver side aimed a little more left and the passenger side a little more right). The lights on my wife's '04 are about the best I have ever had on a car. For some reason BMW changed the design with the Gen 2 MINI and made them worse. My '07 had terrible lights, but it helped a lot when I re-aimed them. For some reason the lights on my 2012 are really pretty good; still not as good as the '04's, but good.

I bought an after market hid set, with error code cancellers. Everything is plug and play, and I snugged everything into the headlamps. I went with hi-lo setup and not bi-xenon, so i did not have to drill holes and connect relay to the battery. The light output is great. The problem is our headlamp is reflector design, not projector design, thus the light pattern is more scattered, feel less bright.!!

I have Xenons in my MCS but I have H4s in my 911sc using 80/100w bulbs: they are super bright, I do not overrun the lights and they do not negatively effect on-coming traffic.

I did upgrade the headlight relay however I do not know if the relay kit will fit the Mini so best to ask a part's specialist.

I had a bulb burn out so replaced both with a set of PIAA extreme white and pretty happy with the result. Not as good as HID, but better than the OEM bulbs for sure. TireRack sells them for $59 a set right now which isn't bad.
