Appearantly, guide movement is supposed to be less than 67mm, mine was 68... So MINI said replace the whole thing. Kewl. I hope it doesn't happen again after the warranty expires.
Wow, I was only quoted about $1900 when I had mine done. I actually got it a little cheaper with some discounts I had available.

I've been noticing a cold rattle for about 10K miles, and reported it to the dealer at its last dealer service last year. (at about 18K miles)

The car has 28K now. When I started it when I picked it up it's very quiet. But man I miss the tune. I'll download what's in there now, (it may have been updated while it was in), as send it to Jan for him to look at.

I had a MINI "Justa" loaner with the Steptronic auto (paddle-free) for a week recently. I was surprised how much I liked both the Steptronic and the non-S.

Ditto! So much so that I ended up with a 2012 Justa Auto when I was originally going to purchase a S Manual.

Oh the hatred (humanity), the hatred (humantiy), unbelievable!

Hey, RoseBerry if you think the $2,500 was bad, you better hope you clutch blows up before your warranty does. That one will cost you close to three times that amount.

Richard,

Did the dealer offer you any reason to think the tming chain/guide/tensioner problem will not recur in the future?

Afaik, the tensioner has been redesigned and upgraded. But that's what they said in 2009, and again in 2010...
