great response.

Just FYI - my EOT reads 220 to 232 on a recent trip.

Do your EOT temps increase (from a cold start) slower than the water temp? Usually oil temp takes twice as long as water temp to get up to operating temp...

my EOT rises in sync with WT almost... until about 180... then EOT takes off and gets up to 295 and water temp stops at 220.

Yeah it's just me so far I believe.

Also, your afr is at 13.2 at idle too... Our cars should be at 14.6 at idle.

Does yours drop very low when under light throttle?

Erik,

Where do you get what the correct air/fuel ratios should be from? What others do you have besides idle?

Thanks,

Well my AFR while I'm driving is at 13.2 then 14.0 then when I come once in a while it comes down to 12.6 but most of the time 13.2.

From dyno days at different dynos, afr probes in the exhaust. 14.6 at idle and trailing to 11.5 at wot at redline with the tune

Stock is the same except it only trails to 12.5 to 13

If you use the xgauge to program the other afr code that is on this forum you'll see the proper wideband values

Sooo... I changed nothing since this morning...

Got in the car after work and left to go home........ started seeing water temp rise faster than EOT... by the time I got home, this is what it read:

Color me confused... but seems like EOT is functioning now.

I did reflash my tune a day before I got the SGII back... so, maybe some parameter that the SGII reads to calculate EOT was skewed from the tune adapting to driving habits or something... who knows... we will see tomorrow how it reads again.

Wow, that is kind of strange. I'm glad it appears to be working properly now for you though. Keep an eye on it, and if it seems like it starts acting up again let me know. It could have been related to the tuning, or it could be the special beta coding it's using. I've noted the weird readings you had, and I will keep an eye out for any other beta units doing the same thing, but so far this has been the only possible bug we've run into with this MINI version.

Whats the refresh rate like on the SGII? Is it pretty much realtime, or there a slight delay?

Thanks James. As far as AFR, do you have any comment on that? Is that reading from the stock wideband, or is it calculated from something else?

Mindspin311 - refresh rate is about .5 sec in the "fast" setting, 1 sec for the normal setting.

James,

Can you review the code that Erik provided? Is it different from what you put into my unit when you installed the beta software?

What is the most useful/accurate version of air/fuel monitoring that is available with the SG?

Thanks as always,

The one you posted that you had on your phone is for the stock wideband and the code itself is a general code that should work on any car with a stock wideband sensor. The one programmed into the MINI beta version is specifically designed for MINI's, and I'm guessing it's also using the stock wideband sensor as well. That's just my assumption, so it's probably worth testing it out to see how they compare to each other.

I requested the Beta version and it was sent the day after my ScanGauge arrived. All the new codes were already programmed in and work fine on my 2011 MC. I am curious what is the difference between engine temperature and water temperature. Are these readings taken from two different sensors? The readings I see for these are only a couple degrees different. Thanks for all your help James.

Update on ScanGauge II Codes

When my 2011 MC was new the water temperature seemed to heat up quickly and stay close to 220F. Now the car is warming up much slower and varies between 190F to 200F. This change occurred before the latest upgrade and since both versions are showing the same temperatures, I assume they are correct. Should the water temperature heat up quickly and stay close to 220F?

My WT is anywhere from 209-220 when driving. If I'm at idle in traffic it goes up to 231 then back down to the original as I stated. So your fine.

Correct water temperature

Thanks for responding. Your normal temperatures varying between 209F and 220F are about 20F higher than I am seeing now. Does your car warm up quickly. My MC is taking over 20 minutes to warm up.

Yes my car warms up pretty decently, maybe about 15-20 min full warm up.

Can't erase diagnostic trouble codes

I just received my Scangauge II with the special 4.09c Mini version, THANKS James...
My car is a 2012 JCW Roadster. The scangauge is working very well for everything but I can't erase the trouble diagnostic codes. I can read the code (P1448) and if I want to clear it, I always see NO RESPONSE. I tried all protocol modes: CANSF-CANLF-CANSS-CANLS-PWM-VPW-ISO-KWPF-KWPS and of course, AUTO. Same thing if I set DTC to normal or alt and PIDS to all or supported.
The scanner I am using for the Lotus doesn't work either for the Mini.
Help...
Jean

One thing you might try if you haven't already is attempting to clear the codes with the Key On/Engine Off. Sometimes ECU's will not clear a code if the engine is running.
