From what I was told I need a new bumper, I cracked my transmission, my oil pain is completely destroyed, my front suspension (something about the bar that connects the two together, not the axle) is cracked and I need a new exhaust.

At this point, I'm glad that I even had a $1000 dollar deductible. The adjuster told me they're getting me all OEM Factory parts except the front bumper cover? I was unsure of what he was talking about, but I'm assuming the black trim cover that covers the undercarriage parts and protects it from rocks and such.

He said I won't notice a difference between any of the parts and everything will be exactly how I had it before the accident.
Glad they can fix everything. Sorry about the accident.

Good luck.

Suspension wise, sounds like you're referring to a subframe or something along those lines which was cracked. If so, those things are usually fairly stout, must have really taken a shot.

Like CR&PW&JB said, the bumper cover is the part you look at when you look at the front of your car. Most people commonly refer to it as just the "bumper". It could be recycled, remanufactured or aftermarket.

As long as the shop knows what they're doing, your car will be fine.

Well, thanks for the all the replies guys/gals, much appreciated. I'll let you all know how it goes. They said the work is probably going to be about 2-3 weeks, so I'm hoping to get it back by the beginning of August hopefully.

I already miss my Mini after having to drive this Prius, lol.

2-3 weeks sounds about right for that amount of work. Wouldn't surprise me if they find some other damage once the shop does a complete teardown though.

And when I got rear-ended in my MINI, the rental agency loved my MINI and thought they were doing me this huge favor by putting me in a PT "Loser". Didn't have the heart to tell them I hate that POS car. Not sure if the Prius is better or worse than the Chrysler. Let's just say they both suck and leave it at that.

hate to be cynical but i would ask for all oem parts replacement since your mini originally has oem. and if you're still in warranty, definitely demand oem since dealers may deny warranty repairs. good luck

I don't think there's a single State in the country that requires insurance companies to use all new, OEM parts on a repairable vehicle. So, unless you have a policy that specifically states OEM-only parts, you're not entitled to them.

Also, any recycled or reconditioned part they use, has to be in as good or better condition than the one it's' replacing.

Lastly, be glad that insurance companies are allowed to use aftermarket, recycled, reconditioned parts. If they couldn't, your insurance premiums would be much higher.

Everything is OEM anyway except the bumper cover. I already went over it with the adjuster and he told me that if something is different or I'm not happy with it, to give him a call and he'll straighten it out for me.

He said everything will look exactly the same and that the shop is giving me a warranty for all the work they do and I'm getting a warranty with the cover so, I feel as though it's really not a bad deal.

Oh and by the way, sorry to hear you had to drive around a PT Loser. Those things are ugly and not at all fun to drive.

Yep, don't worry about that non-OEM bumper cover, it will be fine.

And thanks, lucky for me it was a minor hit and I was only in that rental car for 2 days.

Saw this post on Reddit. Good god, that sucks man. Sounds like things are moving along, and you have a good shop doing the work. GL, and let us know how it goes.

Good to know there's a fellow Redditor here, lol.

Yeah, I'm almost tempted to when I get home upload the pictures of the damage the adjuster took for me (not sure if I'm allowed to). I wish I could get a progress picture from them. I'm not sure if I do but, I'm definitely going to be annoying the shop quite often, lol.

You're allowed to post the pictures, it's your car. If you want progress pictures, ask the shop to take them...or go to the shop yourself and take them.
