2nd Time Around -- an MCS this time.
Just got our 2nd MINI (a new MCS Hardtop) to replace an off-lease BMW 328xi. We previously had a '07 MC base model hardtop which we very much enjoyed. The difference between the MC and MCS is startling. Steering, performance and handling are much better on the MCS (and the MC was very good). Looking forward to participating again in this forum -- really enjoyed it back in 2007-09.
Thanks. It is deja vu all over again. Both cars were/are Chili Red but that is where the major similarities end. The 2007 MC had lots of options such as sunroof, automatic headlights, wipers, temp, etc. with a 6-speed and was an early-production model. The 2012 MCS has the automatic (concession to my wife), heated seats and not a whole lot else.
Even though most controls are the same, I noticed that the new radio has better controls and of course Sirius. Also, the on-board computer functions a little differently and it only came with 2, rather than 3, cargo nets. The headrest are positioned higher using some kind of retaining rings. Blocks rear view, so I removed them --don't carry anyone in the back seat, anyway.
The new car feels like it was carved out of a single block of metal. Everything is solid and there is no slop in any of the controls. The '07 just did not feel as solid. Also, the '07 had the stock 15" wheels and was not as responsive to the steering wheel. We had virtually no problems with the '07 and are hoping the '12 follow suit.
Here is a photo of out with the old (our '09 BMW 328xi) and in with the new. The Bimmer was very nice but was more car than we want/need at this stage in life. We think we will be happy with the MCS. My wife wants us to trade our CRV in on a Countryman, too, but that one may have to wait.
