The buttwarmers are the greatest thing. No more freezing cold seats. Really appreciate those up here.

I live in Atlanta so I dont really need the butt warmer Well the Blue one turned out to be a smokers car even thought they said it wasnt and it stunk! So tomorrow I will make arrangements to buy the White one from a private owner.

Any tips on buying from a private owner when the bank still holds the title. My plan is to meet him at a branch that holds the title . Verify he is who he says he is and has the loan with them. Have my check written out to the bank and not him. Get a Bill of sale and have the bank notarize it . At that point I guess the bank will mail him the title then he will have to sign it over to me. Is that correct? or is there a better way.

That is too bad about the blue one. I cannot blame you for not getting it. I cannot stand a car that smells like cigarette smoke either.

As far as the other is concerned, if the bank has the title on paper, then it can be signed over to you then. If the title is electronic (like Florida's), they should be able to direct you as to what you need to do as far as applying for a new title and getting registration.

Most states have the title either electronic, or stored in a central location somewhere. The procedure you outline is exactly what you'd want to do. The title is going to have to go to the current owner, since he still legally owns the car (even if you pay off his loan). Then he'll sign it over to you. One other thing I'd suggest is taking physical possession of the car once you pay the loan. Even if you don't have the title yet and can't register it or drive it, at least you have it...that way the current owner doesn't have the loan paid off and the car, and you've got nothing except papers.

Yes the plan is for me to take the car with the bill of sale after I payoff his loan. In Georgia we have 30 days to register the car and only need the bill of sale.

I would strongly suggest that you make a phone call to your local DMV in order to ask exactly what you need to do in order to make everything go smoothly with no problems. Different states have different requirements and procedures. I would also make sure that you contact your insurance company. It sounds like you will be paying with a check from your own private funds but if you are paying via a loan then the lending institution will have a say in what they would like you to do. I would have the owner give you permission to contact the financial institution to see what they need from you to complete the transaction at their facility. It seems like a lot of work but it will guarantee that you will have no problems when you arrive.

I just did this recently and was required to sign a power of attorney form for the bank and that allows them to process the title. The bank wont send it to me for me to send to the buyer.

Thanks I went ahead and got the Pepper White one and I'm loving it. Bought it last Thursday and hope to have the title this week. I paid the bank and not the seller . Also got the bill of sale notarized at the bank . Bank said 2 -3 business days to process then they will mail it to him and he will have to sign it over to me.

I currently have pepper white and I love it, one of the best colors when its all shined up! I get a lot of complements on the white with black contrast. Go for the white one

You did well. Of course British Racing Green ones are the best, but White is right close behind them.

Congrats -- welcome to the asylum.
