R56 burned valve and timing chain issue?
burned valve and timing chain issue?
I have a 2007 cooper S and in January have had a huge bill from an oil pan problem (I can't remember the exact part) and now its been in the shop for almost 5 weeks with a burned valve and timing chain problem. In one day the dealer went from a burned valve to a new cylinder head to a new engine! Luckily we were able to push back on the regional service manager to get the dealer to fix the actual problem of the valve. Is this normal for a 68k mile car?
At this point it has become too expensive to keep fixing this car and I think I'm going to have to sell it. Yikes!!

Sorry you had some troubles with the Mini and need to sell it. I see this is your first post on the forum. What other problems did you have in the years you owned the car?
What was your oil change interval like? You can still help us other owners even if you will no longer be one.

About a year ago I had to get a brand new steering wheel because they claimed the changed the design after my airbag light came on. The oil gasket and the valve are the biggest problems I've had with them, which is why this is m first time posting. I love the car, but can't afford to keep having huge issues with it and it doesn't seem like Mini or BMW are willing to stand behind the car.
Do you have an extended warranty? If not, can I suggest not going to a dealership for service? They're notoriously expensive, compared to a local repair shop.
I might go to MINI for anything with a TSB behind it, such as the timing chain, but for anything else outside warranty, I'd avoid a dealership like the plague.
