R56 Dash lights question
Dash lights question
New to this forum so bear with me (and I a girl with limited car knowledge)
My 2007 Cooper showed a dash light a little while back. It showed in red my car on a lift with the brake light illuminated in red, also on the dash, not the big speedo screen.
The manual wasn't entirely helpful since that exact scenario wasn't listed. I called because the closest I saw was an electrical problem and to stop driving. I called to make an appointment and the lady told me it was actually the brake pads and they just needed replaced. My husband does most of the work on our cars and this was certainly something he could handle. The back pads were worn (unevenly) the fronts were in fairly good condition, but he changed all four.
Light still lit, of course. I followed the instructions on this site I think to get into the service mode and to clear the light. It said did the little timer thing and then checked "reset." However, when I restart the car, the still appear. What am I missing?
Thanks in advance.

Did he replace the brake wear sensor? They get worn away with the brake pad and that is how the MINI knows its time to replace the pads. If you don't replace the sensor you won't be able to get rid of the light.
Your husband should have seen the 2 brake pad wear sensors. as they have to be removed to replace the brake pads. One is on the front left and the other is on the right rear. and until the worn one is replaced the light can not be reset.
Not sure if NAPA would have them but there are many places on line like MINI Mania, Way Motor Works, Outmotoring that carry these. They run around $30 each and are very easy to replace.

Here is what the sensor looks like

on the R56 you have to replace them each time, on the old cars we could cut and loop them.
