Asymmetrical rear lights?

Hi,
A while ago I heard some rumor that if one ordered a rear fog for a 2012 MCS, then one of the rear backup light is replaced with the fog lamp, leading to an asymmetrical rear light layout. I had dismissed it as legend until I saw a few weeks ago at a MINI event such an asymmetrical rear light. However I don't know if it was a MCS or some other MINI version, and wanted to double-check. I did search here and didn't find anything.

So if someone who has a 2012 MCS with rear fog lamp can let me know how it look in the back, that'd be great!

Thanks!

I think you will find that all MC's starting with 2011 have an asymmetric rear light layout. The lens for the rear fog lamp is red and the bulb is present behind it. If you did not order the rear fog there is no switch for it, and the programming to turn on the light is not present.

On the other side of the rear light layout you find the single white backup lamp.

Not true. The 2011 JCW Aero kit, and all Clubman have asymmetric rear fog/backup. Without aerokit, the 2011 regular hatchback MCS and non-S Cooper have symmetric configurations.

Thanks--is that without the JCW or Aerokit? Just plain MCS? IF so, that doesn't look too good, I think.

Thanks. I'm considering a 2012 MCS without JCW or body kit--can someone with rear fog and 2012 MCS (not 2011, even though I know they should be the same....but want to be sure) can double-check to make sure all the lights are symmetrical?

Same here with my factory JCW. Fog on left, back-up on right.

The new cars have LED tail lamps without integrated backup lamps so they got moved below. JCW Aero doesn't have as much room I guess for dual fogs. Have a look @ DonOnCapeCod's post above. 2011/2012 should be the same... dual fog lights with dual reverse. Will you not order fogs is it is not symmetric? They are very useful even if they are rarely used (not just fog, but heavy rain on highways with heavy road spray/mist).

Yes, the regular, non Aero package cars have symmetrical lights, even the non S. Look at the gallery on miniusa and you will see the same thing that makes me confident enough to say this with certainty.

So jealous of your tail lights! I know that's how they are stock for 2011+, but I just freakin' love the filament-looking LEDs... Wish mine had that:

Maybe some day I'll do the retrofit, if it's not a pain in the butt.

Great, thanks! I just took a look at MINIUSA's gallery for MCS and compared its rear to the other picture here of MCS with areokit and I can see why JCW and Aerokit has the layout they have--no room for both lamps. With regular MCS, plenty of room.

I'll be adding fog lamps for sure.

Thanks again everyone!
