TPMS Question

Hello - no this is not in my manual. If I buy someone's wheels online here or anywhere and order the tpms sensors - or a seller for example throws them into the deal on here from the want ads...will they automatically "pair" to my Mini or do I have to take it to Mini Dealer to pair my wheels? I have a 2010 S - Thanks, P.

They will pair up with your car's system, but make sure you get the newer 2010+ TPMS transmitters.

Correct TPMS sensors for 2007 thru 2009 are different so make sure you get the 2010+ sensors to work with you car.

Assuming you have the right sensors you will have to reset them through the stalk end on the car, very simple.

+ another 1... Mini is simple and user friendly.

Not like my wife's new Kia. Bought winter wheels and tires from Tire Rack, with new sensors installed. Now I've got to take it to the Kia dealer every time I swap wheels. (or even rotate them...) At least the service department said they will ONLY charge me $50...

That freaking sucks. Really there is no way to do a reset on them with out the dealer doing it. How can that be. where is live the temps very so much this time of year that i have to check the pressures daily and reset the TPMS every few days.

It's not about reseting after a low pressure event, (it does that itself), but rather you have to register each sensor (4 of them) to it's position on the car.If 1's out of position or you have other sensors on other wheels, the system has a fit. Really stupid...

Well at least you can do some resets but still to have it so that you can not rotate the tires is stupid on their part. Unless of course they state in the owners manual not to rotate the tires. But that is just stupid in my book as well.

I believe in the new Mini manual it states that tire rotation is NOT recommended. I prefer to rotate & of course ignore their oil change intervals !

The manual in my 2008 has a statement about NOT rotating tires. Well unless they are different sizes front to back i see no reason i should not rotate then especially since they wear much more evenly if rotated every 3-5K miles.
