LED Side markers from OUTMOTORING / elsewhere. anyone have installed?

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to know if anyone has fitted these LED side marker/repeater lights to their MCS?

something like this!
http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...er_lights.html

And this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA-1h...eature=related

Im thinking of ordering it but wondering if anyone has personal experience/pictures to show! is it good quality? etc?

i'm probably ordering from outmotoring!

Do give me opinions! thanks! :D

I did have a set or I should say I have had 2 sets. The LEDs are great but the clips are below standard and they break easily. After the last set broke I said the hell with it and I am not getting them again. But if you get them the LEDs will not give you any problems its just the plastic parts.

Just got a set from Out Motoring for my R53 - and yes their fit is a bit loose ... I put a little double back tape on and they seem to stay on fine (but I just got them).

Note I did have the LEDs (for the R53) from Moss ~ got them a few years back ... problem was that they were installed only with double back tape and that caused problems for me when the connections (to the bulb socket) failed ... removing them was not the easiest ... Moss provided another set ~ excellent customer service ... but one just failed again - so I went to the Out Motoring units ... which at least should be much easier to remove & re-install (just like the OEM set up) ... even with the little bit of double back tape I used ...

agree that the LEDs will most likely never fail

I believe us older / gen 1 MINIs do not have that lights out signal feature ...

Note I also have LED license plate lights and they work fine ~ no warning lights on the dash from that

and no flickering or too rapid of blinks from the side LED turn signals either ~ synced blink pattern is the same as the rest of the turn signal lights

FWIW ~ I like the look of the Out Motoring side LEDs - the lense has a nice, subtle union jack inlay ~ at least the units OM offers for the "older" R53 do

For the lights out issue try going to your workshop! i had bulbout error when i installed my LED license plate on my r56.

The guy at the workshop simply connected something up to my car, made some changes to my car computer and all was well :D

Purchased from Aaron at outmotoring.com. Had them for over a year. No problems to date.

I have had mine since last Christmas with no issues. Sometimes they hyperflash on start-up as the car is looking for bulb out errors, but it returns none. Very bright.

Hi,

Thats nice to know! that they've lasted most of you a long time! Now i'm curious to know how it looks actually. In person, does it look cheap/plastic-y?

Does it look like an obvious add on or is it believable that it is OEM and a high quality piece.

Thank you!

You don't get a bulb out warning. They do not look cheap. No it does not look like it came on the car they are obviously aftermarket.

Take the side scuttles off. After doing that you disconnect the bulbs and plug in the new ones and put it all back together and your done.

I ordered mine from Moss Mini, installed, and looks great.
BUT I get the bulb out warning, which resolves after about 5 minutes, but then returns each time I signal to turn. Any ideas how to sort that out? It's a bit annoying when I get that warning.

You would need to get the cold and warm bulb checks coded out by a someone who knows what to do. All external bulbs on an R56 Mini are checked Cold when you start the car and then checked Warm when you use a bulb and the car is running. LEDs use less current and consequently look like a fault, so the best way to use LEDs is to stop the car from carrying out these checks.

Main dealer can do it but won't and would charge a lot of money if they did. There are some good independent coders who can do it for you. Alternatively if you are very computer literate and very patient and willing to invest many hours and buy a special cable you can do it yourself. All the information is on these forums.

I've replaced almost all my bulbs with very bright ones from v-leds.
They were expensive but they are 4X as bright. I don't get bulb out
indicators.

Of particular interest to me was the brake lights. The v-leds fills the lens much
better and is much brighter than even those hyper bulbs.

You want to get the color of the lens.

Its not that hard.
Nor does it take many hours.
I coded 5 options last night and it took 15 minutes.
Yes, you have to read the wealth of pdf's here (or 1) and proceed slowly.
The cable is ~30 bucks.

If you need help coding I would love to share info. A member here has received countless emails from me, but once you wrap your brain around it, the process is surprisingly simple.

The actual coding time is not long, but it can take many hours to get a working system up and running from scratch. Not trying to put anyone off here, but there is a high level of perseverance needed and it will really help if you are comfortable with computers at a programming level. Many struggle and the forums here are full of help requests.

Take advantage of nutsofamily's kind offer. , it will really ease the potential pain.

Yes, thats true about the pain…. I had to return 1 cable because it was not working completely. That was worth 1 week of frustration in itself.

Once I purchased a working cable, everything fell in place.
I will be posting a step by step code for the sport button with pictures soon as well as a simple code step by step.

For me, it was a few simple steps that may have seemed obvious to others that got me hung up. After all, we are talking about the computer

Ive had the Outmotoring black LED ones on for quite a while now. I got lucky with the clips on mine, they fit great and I've never had any problems. They do the previously mentioned hyperflash on startup, but no bulb out errors or anything else. I love them.
