Ordered a new 2012 - what to expect?

On August 13, we ordered my wife her first new car - a 2012 Chili Red hatch back. It has automatic, cold weather package, arm rest, cloth sport seats, rear spoiler and several options, including the extended warranty and extended service plan.

She is very excited, but we thought we would be getting some updates from Mini - so far only an e-mail from the sales person indicating that the car was scheduled to be completed on September 7.

Should we be hearing any updates from Mini?

Thanks!

Ted

I never had much communication from Mini. After the car was delivered I did get a welcome kit of sorts. This was a couple years ago. Not sure if they still do that though. So far I have an zero communication with Mini since my car was ordered. Not even from my MA

That's fairly typical. We're on our fith custom ordered MINI now and we've never had any communication like that. It's up to you to track the progress of your own MINI either via contacting your MA, or via the tracking feature on the Owner's Lounge and 1-866-ASK-MINI (using the seven digit production number you should have received from your MA when you placed your order - and later on your MINI's VIN). That's why I pointed the OP to the nicely done How to Track your MINI thread. It has all the details.

BTW, back in 2004, we ordered a 2005 PW/B MCS and MINI actually made a video of it during its production and gave it to us via the tracking feature of the Owner's Lounge. It was a super cool video showing our MINI getting painted, rolling down the assembly line, having the engine dropped and bolted in, etc., etc. I was bummed to find out that it was only a test and wasn't going to be put into general use. I'll see if I can track down the video. It's been years since I've seen it.

Looks like I must have deleted the pics and video from my website over the years (bummer). Here are some old threads that talk about it though:

See Your MINI As It's Being Created

Personalized MINI Production Video

MINI Manufacturing Videos

New Feature in Owners lounge! Too cool!

Just remember the 2011 and 12 minis have the backup lights in the rear bumper not the brake/signal housing. If you order a rear fog light you lose one backup light. Its no longer in the middle. We made that mistake and ordered the rear fog and now we have one red light and one white in the lower bumper.
