Best Gas for MINI

So I asked how often you fill your tank....what is your favorite gas brand....the one you always go to that seems to stretch the tank that much further?

Shell or Chevron will work just fine. As long as it is the premium. They are both Top Tier gasoline. 91 or 92 will be just fine. It's the cleaning properties of the fuels that really gets them to the top tier rating.

I have used both in our Mini's since new. 90% Chevron simply because there are more Chevron stations in our area and it's less expensive than Shell.

I try to fill up every 200 miles or so, and at the newest gas station I can find.

I'm always filling up with 92 octane or more, ethanol free premium gas in my home area. Never had to gas up outside of my area Shell stations are typically the highest around here. Have not seen much performance or mpg gains using them, so I just stick with other top brands.

I use 92 or 93 from speedway. In my town I honestly think it's the best here. I fill up 3 days a week and I personally think it is. I've done autocross and drag strips many a times all on that gas. But when I went to the dyno the dyno guy looked at me like I was a fool for not using Sunoco... Mines a daily, it's not a race car... It's not that serious lol. Btw I have NEVER once noticed certain gas making it run faster. But not saying it couldn't. People in my town say that the Wal mart gas station goes through the tank faster...

Shell 93 V-power and add a bottle of techron about every 3000 mi.and as stated in the "top tier" article they are lessening the detergent cleaners to about 50%.I have not had a carbon build up or any other major engine probs ('07 MCS 58,000 mi)and its my daily driver.

I use Costco fuel 95% of the time, occasionally Sam's Club or if I am out of town what ever seems nice, has lots of turn-over etc. Top-Tier is a joke with these DI engines in the S model.

BP isn't on there either, and in the owners manual it specifically says BMW Suggests BP.

They also say you have to put tea and crumpets in the transmission every 15,000 miles.

My car (2008 MCS abt 68K miles) does seem to hate Exxon. And when I took it in once to complain about performance, the SA said, "You don't use Exxon, do you? That might be your problem." BP gets the job done, and I figure I'm helping pay to clean up the gulf, too! Just doing my part as a concerned citizen.

The top tier fuel is supposed to have better detergents to keep the inside cleaner but if you are not pulling fuel over the values (Direct Inject) it does no good. All fuel comes from the same place, just different detergents added. I see no need to pay for Shell or other higher priced fuel. High test is a requirement, but otherwise no need to be picky.

Top Tier gas is pure marketing. Everybody puts fuel injector cleaner, detergent, in all their grades of gasoline. I put premium in my MINI, around here that's 92 octane. But I don't have any brand loyalty.

There's a new race track going in about twenty miles from my house, they will have premium non-methanol gasoline when they open next spring, I'll probably get gas there, when I'm in the neighborhood.

Y'all do realize since the guy in front of you at the pumps bought low test most bloody likely - you get a hose load of crap to start every time.

That's not true. The Top Tier makers have a certain criteria to meet in order to meet Top Tier specs. Those others do not meet that Spec and as such do not get the Top Tier rating. But this is America and you can put in your car whatever gasoline you desire.

You can read about it here. http://www.toptiergas.com/
