R56 soot at exhaust tip with only 10K miles
soot at exhaust tip with only 10K miles
I have a question I am hoping someone might be able to shine some light on.
I have a 2011 Justa that has just hit 10K miles ever since I got it it seems to build up soot at the exhaust tip quit fast as I clean it every time I was the car.
Gas mileage for me is running between 35-42 MPG and I have a 140 mile commute five days a week.
Oile usage seems to be non existent and the first change was done @ 7540 miles on the clock.
Is this something normal? My guess is the motor runs rich and to some degree I would expect that on the S or the JCW but not the base.
Thank you all for your help

wow! That's quite the commute. I had a similar commute about 10 years ago. Now I have a much shorter approx 15 mile commute which ironically, because of traffic, takes me almost as long as the 140 mile commute I used to have.
Anyway, I think that's normal. I have about 4700 miles on mine and the exhaust tip is always getting dirty.
And I envy your gas mileage!! With my stop n go commute, I'm barely managing about 24 mpg right now.

Yup. Normal. My favorite is "Never-Dull"

Soot = carbon
Normal is the punch line, whether on my S or my other vehicles with bright tipped exhaust. Stick a carbon based fuel in one end and even after you clean up all the exhaust via good smog control and tight fuel regulation and a bunch of it is now CO2 and H20, no surprise that you still end up with some basic...carbon. And I say that completely independent of any oil burning (or not).

Started using it every night on the new clubman. Takes only a couple of minutes.
...and I need to update my sig
I have a negative emotional reaction to Nevr-Dull after using it to clean what must have been several square miles of brass during Boot Camp and Officer Candidate School, but I have to admit it's a great polish, and works a treat on the tailpipe ends!
