Remote control garage door

Apparently our new 2011 Mini Cooper S is not equipped with a garage door opener button. Does anyone have experience with installing this after the fact.
Thanks

Well the question is do you have button on the bottom of the mirror for the Home Link System. If you do and you garage door opener is not compatible a module can be added to the garage door to make it compatible.

If you do not have buttons on the bottom of the mirror then you may not be able to add OEM mirror with Home Link. I know some other years it can be added and some it can not with out major wiring additions. Check this thread for more info.

Schatzy do you have more info about an add-on module that would make the garage door compatible? My Mini and my X3 both have the garage opener button but my garage door isn't interested in playing along. Thanks!

Usually there is a button or switch up on the door opener that you have to push to activate the learning mode. When in learning mode lights flash for a minute or so and within that time you then press the opener in your car to sync up with the rolling codes.
I would get a manual for the opener on-line if you don't have it and go through the sync up process instructions.
If your opener is too old to have the 'rolling code' system it should work as is but it's probably time for a new opener though.

Our recently purchased 2011 Canadian spec Cooper S included the convenience and comfort pkg and therefore has the self dimming mirror but lacks the UGDO/home link facility. Can anyone clarify as to whether this was an option when ordering a 2011 as I don't see it on the mini-configurator or in the printed brochure.
Thanks.

You can also call the Homelink people and their tech staff will guide you through the steps exactly. We had to change our door opener to a newer one, and I could not get the homelink on my C300 to do anything. The Homelink people had some additional steps for me to take, but in the end, it worked perfectly. They were very good folks to work with.

Google Homelink, or try this link.

BTW -- Mini is listed as a model of BMW on their system, it is not listed individually -- go figure????
