So are new generation Minis considered German or British???

Being that the Mini is traditionally a British car and is still made in the UK but is now owned and designed/engineered by BMW, do most people still consider it a British car or is it considered German?

I still think of it as a British car.

Since there is a New MINI class in most British car shows, I would call it British!

British, with some German engineering. Still British though.

I have to disagree it's a German car with British heritage.

If it were truly British it would have all of the stuff on the wrong side, like the hood release and such.

I have to agree with you with the British heritage, but its German technology.

Well it's a british marque on a german car using a german/french engine. I'd call it mostly german.

So confused...

Built in Oxford, but clearly does not even begin to have enough electrical (or overheating) problems to qualify for a "proper" fine British automobile.

Well the MINI is kind of like the British Royal family "British" but with German roots.

If it was all on the "wrong side", they wouldn't sell here, name 3 car manufacturers that make cars for sale in the US in RHD configurations. And I'm talking off the showroom, not specialty stuff like Mail trucks.

It is a British car, with German engineering. The spirit, soul, and heritage of the car is pure Brit, so even tho the car is a BMW and technically German, I see it as a British car.

Show me any vehicle with all it's parts designed and manufactured where it's assembled.

Heck the GM Duramax diesel engine is an Isuzu design.......

And the MINI auto tranny is from Aisin in Japan......

Aisin supplies automatic transmissions to 35 automotive manufacturers around the world, virtually every major OEM. These include General Motors, Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Audi, VW, Volvo, Hyundai, Toyota.....

It is a 'World" car.
Parts are from England, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, Brazil, France, Japan, China, etc.
It's assembled in England.

Definitely dual citizenship, an offspring of a British mother and a German father

Definitely British.

If MINI's are German, then Chryslers are Italian!

German interpretation of a British car?

What defines what a car is to you? I have an engineering mindset so I look at things like the tahoe/yukon/escalade/suburban and say it's all the same car but many people don't see it that way.

So what defines your car? The engineering design overall? The chassis? The engine?
Or maybe you tend to look at the exterior design or the character of the car. With such a diverse background to the Mini there is more than one answer to this question.

You might have a good point there.
