Does anyone really drive without the "Sport" button on?

I have the automatic 'justa'. I don't use sport mode much mostly because when the car reaches freeway speeds, it never will shift into 6th leaving the RPM's up high.
I will put it into the temporary sport mode (by moving the shifter left to DS), when accelerating on an on-ramp or especially when passing as there is a scary lag in throttle response when you 'romp' on it when not in sport mode... I move the stick back to the right to cancel sport mode as soon as I am up to speed. ... Easier than trying to fumble for the sport button.

The throttle feel is way different but it may have more to do with the altered shift points in the auto??

I have not been able to perceive a difference in the steering.

A RMW tune cured me of my sport button addiction.

I'm thinkin of getting a Mini very soon used. What year did they start the sport button in?

I didn't use mine so much until after my first spirited 17 MINI twisty mountain run at HelenBitz a couple weeks ago. Now I find myself using it far more often.

According to the online owners manuals.... 1st gen 2002-06 had sport program mode with the automatic (CVT) transmission only.

The 2nd gen 2007+ ('09+ convertible) has the sport mode button for automatic and manual.

Nope. The few times I've forgotten to push the Sport button I've started to roll away and wondered what was wrong with my car. Parking brake on? Nope. Car running? Yep. Sport butto... oh. Duh.

I can't drive it without the Sport button. It feels sluggish and not as smooth.

I'm thinking the sport button override will be one of my first mods.

I don't know, I don't think that I am so old yet that I can't remember to push the button when I start up. I think that my next two mods will be black door handles from AC and the WMW Performance Blowoff Valve.

Black door handles are a must! Do you have the Comfort Access?
Have no idea what the WMW Performance Blowoff Valve is but I'm sure I'll want one .

I only use the Sport button when I want to pwn someone off the line.

BTW, what's the Sport button do on a Manual, besides tighten the steering? In the Automatic, it's my understanding it changes the shift points...

It changes the fuel ratio as well.
I also read somewhere that the electronic map for the
accelerator is also modified to give a more instant response.
I'm not sure what that part exactly means, though.

It makes the throttle more linear in response. You don't have to give it half throttle just to make it go anywhere.

Changes the mapping for the steering and the throttle.

I tend to use mine only to "treat" myself once or twice a week, I don't know why, that's just the pattern I've settled into.

If they have to have a button to fill the hole, then call it "Wimp mode"!!

Yes, just like me (hanging head in shame!).

I even gave it a week once thinking I just had to get used to it, nope. Hit the sport mode button and all my troubles go away. Nice and easy without even thinking about it.
Is it just me?
I have just the opposite problem, of course I generally drive in non-sport, but when I switch I generally stall once or twice.
I defintiely love sport mode, but for my every day commute and running around, I generally don't turn it on. When I'm cruising down backroads and twisties, I can't live without it ....

Hmm.. I haven't tried the sport button yet on my MCS. It's my first manual and I've only had about 500ish miles worth of driving (mostly highway). I'm going to have to try it tonight on my way home and see if it has any affect on my starts.

I LOVE my Sport button! I love to hear my exhaust get raw when the Sport button is engaged. I try to only use it when I either know I'll need it or if I want so show off in hopes someone else will hear the burble-pop.

My husband however, when he drives my MINI, he always has the Sport button on, as well as DTC off.

once I tried the sport button, and steptronic, I was totally addicted. I had driven manuals for the last 20 years, and although steptronic is nowhere near the fun of a manual, it is still pretty good. I find that on the few times I have forgotten to press the sport button, I feel like I am moving in S-L-O-W-------------M-O-T-I-O-N-------------------------

I've never NOT used the sport button! With the JCW Stage 1 pkg, the motor and exhaust has extra noises and I lubs those extra noises. The sport button accentuates those noises. Fun too.
