Crazy Door Lock and Window Problem

Alright guys, I took my 2007 S to the dealership for a service light and was told that it was the light for rear brake pads and scheduled maintenance. I have had absolutely no problems at all with locks or windows. The dealership reads the codes from the key and I get back in the car and notice that it doesnt lock when I get up to speed like normal. It tried and then unlocked so i hit the lock button and didnt think anything about it. I got home turned the car off and closed the door, hit the lock button and the windows roll down and the doors dont lock. I get in and roll the windows up and try again and same thing happens. I know if you hold the lock button it will roll the window down but i was not holding it. I then tried to lock the door with the key and it would lock until i removed the key from the slot and then it would unlock itself. Now whenever I get out of the car I dont even have to hit anything at all, the window rolls down, the fob will not lock the doors, the key will lock the doors until the key is removed and then it unlocks again. Also now when I am in the car it is not automatically locking, I will hit the lock button, it locks and then immediately unlocks and then when i try again I get nothing out of the locks. Lastly the windows are now rolling up very slowly. So slow that sometimes it locks and I have to let off of the button and hit it again before it will continue upwards.

Like I said I was having none of these problems before i took it in to get service but all they did was read the codes off of the key they did not even touch the car. Is there any way they could have somehow done something to the key that then freaked out the system when the key was put in? I was told that the key reader only receives information from the key and that it in no way sends information to the key. I took it back to the dealership and they had it all day and have no idea what the problem is. They said they have never seen anything like it. Also I had the battery checked because I know weird electrical things can happen when battery is low but it tested perfectly fine.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance guys.

I can't help but think this is really cute... the car is telling you it wants to go for another drive! :P

I have been told something about having to have my keys "reprogrammed" before so I think the reader at the dealership can rewrite too.

Does seem a bit odd, but at least your MINI is showing the Dealership all of the new tricks it has learned!! They must really be scratching their heads, hopefully they put you in a really nice Loaner!!??

Just a wild guess here, but it almost sounds as if their key reader fouled up your key somehow - maybe a static electrical jolt or something.

Good luck, this is a strange one!

Anyone else have any ideas? The dealership has no idea and they have put in a request to mini corporate to try and figure it out. To me it seems that everything that is having problems can be controlled by the key. Everything was fine before they had the key ... they give the key back and all is messed up, i think thats more than just a coincidence.

Does your spare key have your settings or the default settings?

unfortunately I do not have a spare, It only had one when I bought it used. Is there a way to reset the key to default settings and see if that helps?

I didn't realize that you had started 2 threads. Anyway, if you can reset the key, the Owner's Manual would have the details. Seems like I saw that mentioned in the Manual, but I can't swear to it. If you don't have a manual, I think it can be downloaded from the Owner's Lounge on the MINIUSA site. Search around here for info on getting the Owner's Manual. I believe it comes as a PDF.

I bet you have moisture in the door wiring harness. There is a TSB about this issue. It is related to the large number of people (me included) that have had the windows roll themselves down and unlock. The dealer will use dielectric grease to insulate the harness.

When you went to the dealer they probably washed your car.

Well then it could be the CAS module has gone bad or there is moisture in the door harness that picked a bad time to short out.
