Another Ticket

Well my mini has lead me to get yet another speeding ticket to my 5 years of driving. Thankfully my other tickets have been cleared due to time and traffic school.

I was caught at 84 in a 65 here in southern california on the 210 freeway heading west (Glendale area) by CHP. You guys have any idea how much I'm looking at for the ticket fine? ( I am 21 and have been driving for 5 years )

BTW I will not be eligible for traffic school I just used it for this 18 months on another ticket in June.

Bummer. Don't know the exact $ amount, but I'm sure it will be > $250 and hopefully less than $500. My understanding is that traffic school eligibility is still up to the judge should you choose to go to court. Not likely, but there's always the chance that the officer misses your court date. In any event, good luck.

Get a radar detector! It's the first toy I got for my MINI. It'll pay for itself!

Just got a speeding ticket yesterday morning. 94 mph in a 65 mph on the CA 118. But since I was in Ventura County, the charge is the same from 66mph to 99mph. So it's still just a speeding ticket. I will be able to clear it with traffic school. Still a bummer though. Wish I could help you with an estimate of the cost, but I also have no idea.

Around here, Buffalo NY, 19 over would usually be around $300-$400 depending on the town you're in. Luckily all of my tickets have been dropped so far

It's not just the cost of the ticket, it is the change in cost of the insurance.

In my case I have children in their 20s, we live in the area where you got your ticket. First ticket, traffic school, second ticket, the entire policy goes up 10%, third ticket it is 25%. Getting Valentine V1s was less expensive than paying the insurance increase.

fast driving award, ha.
Ticket prices have skyrocketed up here in the SF area. But whenever I'm down in LA I thought you got ticketed on the fwy for going slower than traffic, meaning 90 or less! ha

I have a V1 and trust me that has paid for itself many times over lol. He actually paced me from a few lanes over. It was dark out and I am usually really aware and good at recognizing CHP but I simply wasn't paying attention.

The part that pisses me off is I was following a pack of cars and once we hit a downhill we increased speed. When the CHP came to my window he just said you shouldn't have been at the back of the pack and we wouldn't be here. He said he followed us for about two miles going about 77 and when I went down the hill I hit 84 that's when he nailed me.

He was the biggest a**hole in the nicest way lol

Not that I condone speeding, etc but I swear by the Valentine 1, which has 360 degree view, laser and radar.... and a new remote gauge for your gauge pods...

The cost of the ticket is trivial compared to what it will do to your insurance for the next several years.

My experience has been for a much larger increase than your examples.

My last ticket that affected my insurance resulted in about a $1000 per year increase

Roughly $3000 total ... this is when it sucks to be a college student lol

Ah consider that cheap ... the ticket prices have sky rocketed here in CA over the years

I got one for 19 mph over when I was 16 and the fine was only $129

By buddy just got nailed for 19 mph over on the same road a few months ago at 21 years old and the fine was $450

The Valentine is suppose to be a great detector. What can you do if they actually want to pace you without the radar on? We are all vulnerable with these MCS's because they beg us to push them. I talked with an attorney with my ticket last year and he made it go away for about double the price of the original ticket. Goodluck, and happy motoring!!!

Yeah, I thought about challenging the ticket. If the officer doesn't show up to the court date* then the ticket will be thrown out.

* California stopped paying officers to show up to court on their off days.

I don't have much to lose lol

My V1 has saved me at least 5 speeding citations in the last year, you should get one if there is any cash left after paying the fine. Good luck, hope for the cop-no-show in court.

In SF the court accepts written officer testimony. It's weak: you can't see it or defend against it. Dodgy!

best of luck.

i'm real careful driving around now that california is broke. it's bad enough that we have one of the highest tax, now chp/police will hand out tickets like candies. the state gotta increase their budget somehow.

I'm shocked???!!!! No scolding for speeding?

Most threads in the past concerning the same subject are 50/50 in support vs pseudo-parental chastising: "I suggest you slow down."

I like the new attitude around here.

Join the National Motorists Association (NMA).

http://www.motorists.org/

If a member gets a ticket and fights it in court and looses, the NMA will pay the fine.

There are a lot of resources on their site to help you fight a ticket.

They were the main group who lobbied for the repeal of the 55 mph national speed limit.

The guy has one (read a few posts up) - cop paced him, no detector can prevent that from happening.
