New Mini it is....

Hate to disappoint ya'll but I guess I'm staying in the mini family. I wrote an estimate for my '09 JCW and it was well over 20K.

I was so busy clicking on the keyboard, I didn't actually take the time to look at what was driving the price up.

There is VERY, VERY, VERY little structural damage... I'd say less than 100-200 bucks worth.

Engine cradle needs to be replaced, etc, etc but since I can't turn this in on insurance, I'm going to turn the car into a full track **** and beat on it some more.

In the meantime, that leaves me looking for another car. I spent last night just going over different options and other than a Subbie, there isn't anything except a new Z06 that interests me...

Having said that, I'm not quite ready to get rid of my mini yet.

Soooo, since I have all the cool parts for my mini still like the Recaro JCW seats, I'll install them in my new JCW and put real racing seats in the '09.

All the other stuff, I'll leave on there and start gutting the interior and replacing glass with Lexan.

I hate going this route but I think it's better since I was intending on buying a track **** anyway.

And have I got a color picked out....

So 5th mini in less than 3 years... woohoo...is that some sort of record, do I get a prize?

I'll keep ya updated, I may have to join the ranks of those that wait upon the ship to cross the waters.... (unless I come up with a killer deal on a 2010)

BMW/MINI should give you a frequent buyers card. On the 5th hole punched out you get a free MINI

Amazing that there's not much structural damage after slamming into a concrete barrier. That testimony alone has got to be worth something to MINI.

Going with Chili Red???

Glad you are ok and sorry to hear about the Mini, but it looks like it all turned out for the better. Now to colors. Well for the R56 you started off with a Laser Blue and then moved to Yellow, so I think your next color will be Pepper White or British Racing Green. Also, since your current Mini will now be a track ****, will you start really upgrading the internals in the engine or just leave it how it is ?

Sorry to hear but sounds like you've got a good recipe to turn that lemon into lemonade. We bought four MINI's in a year...long story but other than being easily recognized at the dealer and a baseball cap...no real pay-out.

First mini was orange
Second was dark silver
Third was Laser blue
Fourth is Mellow Yellow

I'm thinking Astro black... I was originally thinking chili red but the more I think about it, I'm digging the all blacked out idea.

As far as building the motor in the Mellow Yellow, probably not, I'll wait till something comes loose and then tear into it. Other than that, I say just beat it...

Unless you are going to repaint it, you probably mean Midnight Black, as they discontinued Astro Black last year. So, we'll be almost sisters, the cars that is, as mine is to be Midnight Black, but I'm putting the Chili Red roof and mirrors. Something different for me too, with the Black. My wife drives a 08 Jeep Liberty that is all Black, but that car is not fun to wash. The little Black beast shouldn't be all that bad.

Sorry for your crash, but the good thing is that you came out all right. And, unfortunately you did this the expensive way, but now you have your true track car. At least you should know someone that can repaint your Mellow Yellow guy.

Mark,
What was the name of that body shop chain that advertised their $29.95 full paint special back in the 60's? I can see the adds, but just not the name, yes, now I remember. EARLE SHIEBE PAINT & BODY

I heard from a couple of friends that wrecked their Minis at WGI have managed to get an insurance claim through GEICO. And they were forgiven for one incident. This was a couple of years ago though.

Some insurance companies still cover drivers education.
