Just my 2¢...you can't let the fear of loss keep you from living. If you enjoy modding then what's your motivation? Are you really looking for the financial return when you sell it - or are you looking to enjoy the enhanced driving/ownership experience. Don't get discouraged...you've got a big ole MINI family here for you.

You are kidding right, We're talking about an insurance company... You would probably have to push pretty hard and threaten litigation.

I am pissed that I put a lot of time and money into it and then this crap happens. It would be different if I did this to myself by driving recklessly. Then I could just blame me. But some jackass was not paying attention in stop and go traffic. Yes it was an accident but it could have easily been avoided.

So I am discouraged to do more.

Don't be too bummed out. I was hit 10 years ago in stop and go traffic on I95 in CT (exit 5). It wasn't that bad of a hit, just my bumper (and $8000 to the Cadillacs front end) but still to this day, my back bothers me. More than I can possible tell you.

If you are OK, then it's fine to be pissed as hell, just realize how much worse it can get. In 10 years, you will never think of this on a day to day basis, but believe me, you could have.

I know how you feel...my 2008 MCS was my pride and joy. I had wanted one since they first started importing them to the US again. I paid cash for it and seven months later I was sitting in stopped traffic on the freeway...looked up...saw a bright orange Infiniti M flying up behind me. The driver was laid over on the door talking on her cell phone...she never hit the brakes...and as I tried to pull to the shoulder of the road I went flying! The repair was supposed to take 2 weeks - it took 2 months. I was so pi$$ed! So, I'm not trying to minimize your feelings. I'm just saying you can't not do what makes you happy. Hope this makes sense.

Hang in there, Steve. If you ever get a chance to work with Lyle, you'll be a happy camper. Great guy and it sounds like he's working things out for you. Keeping your MINI in my good thoughts... And you're right - there's no other MINI like the one you own!

Glad you are OK. Period. You're Mini will be fine after gettin' repaired. It's amazing how a Shop can restore a car. You are absolutely correct about hesitating to mod it. That's why I'm not going nuts over my bumper paint job. It's just a matter of time before some irresponsible fk damages it.

That last comment made me think of my father. He says the exact same thing about inconsiderate drivers.

So pissed about missing Lyle. That would have just about put the finishing touch on my exterior mods.

Keep OEM Parts

Whenever possible, keep your stock parts when modding. If you do have an accident and it appears that it will be totalled. Best to have it towed to your home or club mechanics shop. ( if possible ). And if you can, removed the modded parts and replace back with OEM before it leaves for the MINI parts Bin in the Sky

In some cases, such as external body repairs. Factory upgraded parts are covered. And as always, keep all your receipts for the parts you have added. Especially true for aftermarket rims in case those are jacked.

That sucks. Really sucks. NYC and the entire area sucks for driving anything, people are just too careless overall. Maybe that's generalizing, but it's most likely true.

After witnessing a car get T-boned into the median today, while sitting on the other side, in traffic, consider yourself lucky. It could've been worse.

Being discouraged is completely acceptable, why spend more money on something that could just get ruined again, right?

On the other hand, you have nothing to lose. You'll enjoy the car even more with additions... and maybe next time you can rent a car for work into the city, because that's probably a cost-effective choice for a day. Hell... rent a box truck!

On the Jersey Turnpike at 65-80 mph....give a New yorker an inch and they'll put a Cadillac in there.

I have lived in the NYC area my whole life and other than being in an accident by myself on 2 different occasions due to snow, I have never been hit by another car. I live north of the city and drive all over for work. I drive to Boston and Philly and all over in between. The roads suck, the other drivers are either oblivious or are deliberately screwing with you. What can you do? Hopefully this does not happen again for a long time or never.

And keep your middle finger ready...

Not that it proves anything...

Or use the "Brazilian" hand gesture. They'll just think your telling them its OK...

I have teeth marks on mine from biting it. I feel like sticking it in someone's face here and there....The cell, text, tailgating drivers...what did I miss so far. Oh yeah lane changers w/ out signaling and weavers.

just read up on this thread...hang in there and soon your car will be back in your hands!

(while your mod with lyle was stopped because of your accident...I had my mod today stopped by the Great Rejector...my wife! As I tried to sneak out for a window tint for my new MCS, she stopped me with: "No way! Totally not necessary!" Boom!)

lol

Next time tell her you were sneaking out for flowers but.....now that she caught you......bah forget it!

When you do get a chance to sneak out next time, make sure you're going to put 20% all around - it'll look sick on a PW/B

This has been covered before. Ask for forgiveness instead of permission. You have our clearance.

No surprise that I have not been on here much since I don't have my car back. Still at the dealer being repaired. Hopefully I will have it back by the end of next week. Maybe Friday July 16th.
