Auto Trans in "M" mode - auto downshifts
Hi all,
I have a 2008 MCS and I occasionally move the shifter over to the "M" setting when in heavy traffic as I find that it smooths out the shifting a lot.
I've noticed that, when I am in 3rd gear and up at speed, and then I slow down to a certain speed, the transmission automatically shifts down into 2nd gear.
I assume that this is something that the car is programmed to do so the engine doesn't "bog" down (like if you are in 5th gear at 25 mph and give it some gas). Understandable.
I find that occasionally I will be downshifting from 3rd to 2nd on my own, right at the same time as the auto "M" downshift, and I end up in 1st gear when I'm not expecting it. Other times the transmission has downshifted automatically while I'm concentrating on the road, and I think that I'm in 3rd, but the trans is really in 2nd.....then I shift and now I'm in 1st gear .
I've driven manuals all my life so I'm used to the rpms needed at certain speeds and when to shift, etc....this is something I'm not used to...HAHA.
Is this something that can be adjusted by the dealer (or turned off??) or do I just need to keep driving it and getting used to never having to downshift into 2nd gear because the car is doing it for me ?
Thanks!
Brian
