R56 Startup whine??
Startup whine??
Hello,
I've only had the 2009 MINI Cooper w/ 9000 miles for a couple weeks now but something my dad and I noticed ever since the dealer let us test drive the car is that there is a whine immediately after starting the car up after it has sat over night or while I'm at work. My dad thinks it might be a starter sound but I wondered if this is a normal sound or what might be going on. I'm a newb at the MINI thing still so I want to find out if this is normal.
Like I said, it sounds like a whine and happens for about 3 seconds immediately after hitting the start button. I really don't want to burn time at the dealer so I'm hoping I get a good answer here.

It's normal...mine hadn't been started in probably a month, Hubby took Molly out for a spin, I wasn't able to drive due to surgery, but yeah I noticed the Whine when he started her up, kinda' Freaked me out at first, but I've never had a mechanical problem with her so I just chalked it up to a Cold Start after a bit of sitting.
Hope this helps!!

Mine has always done this, it's normal.
I don't see how your starter could whine when shutting off the engine, it's used to only start your engine. It's got to be something else, if you had an N18 engine I would say it could be your motor that controls the leaf springs for your Valvetronic head. I have heard of this before in other threads of people complaining of a while after turning off the engine.
