R56 2011 Model Changes
2011 Model Changes
We already know that the engine hp and torque will has a bump for the new model year. Also we know these facts:
1. 2011 BMW 1-series and 3-series, finally they have the value package, which includes leather, usb and ipod, for free.
2. 2011 135i has the new N55 engine, which adds valvetronic. This is the same case for the 2011 MCS engine update (turbo no valvetronic -> turbo+valvetronic).
The following is just my speculation:
1. Will the 2011 cooper get free leather, usb etc. just like the BMW 1 and 3 series?
2. Will the 2011 MCS get double clutch transmission?

The Cooper already has valvetronic
I think the upgraded engine, new interior, and slightly redesigned front bumper might be most of the new changes for 2011.
The introduction of the new models like the Countryman will be the big news for 2011.
The biggest change seems to be in late 2012 when Mini introduces a brand new R56 with brand new engines designed by BMW.
Some options at a discount might happen to help sell more cars here in the US. US dealers have more unsold cars sitting on dealers lots then ever before so I think there will be some kind of incentive to blow out the current R56 before the New model is released in late 2012.
Actually Mini is already giving away $1750 worth of options now if you elect to take the 2.9% for 60 months. Check on the Mini USA site.

All will be revealed in a few weeks at the New York Auto Show, where the 2011 refresh is expected to debut.
I agree. I doubt that any of the OP's hopes will become real. No double clutch transmission either. There will only be minor cosmetic updates and introduction of the MINI Connected system.
That will be the next generation, not the R56. It will be a completely new car from the ground up.

Check out the Motorfile updates on the JCW and Mini today. They show a Black, with Red top and mirrors that is new this year for JCW. Even the chrome on the brake ducts and rear fog lights doesn't look so bad on the black. A black with red piping on the seats is another option that they talk about. And, show the full tail lights, nice and describe the changes in the head lights more.
Hey, we're getting a little more each day.

for those that haven't seen teh leaked face lifted pics:

"
While the changes are pretty much unnoticeable they include revised head lights and tail lights (LED), new exterior colors, and new packages for the interior. Oh yes and an updated engine. The 1.6 liter delivers an extra 2 HP (wow!) and according to first details it offers a 3% fuel savings thanks to the addition of a new map regulated oil pump.
If you are interested, stay tuned for more details, the official debut is imminent!"

Me too, I'll be going with the cloth interior. Save the $2k for other options. Also, even though we don't know it yet, there maybe other cloth options this year, possibly. What I am really hoping for is that JCW options maybe installed at the factory, or at least at the port. Dealer labor is a killer.

you know, the newer style is nice an all, but I'm not digging the contrasted brake intake. I'd get a black one so that it blends in.
For those that debate about should they buy now or wait, the way I feel is the R53 is still a DARN good looking car. The R56 came out because of mandated European safety regulations. These are all evolutionary changes much in the way 911's have evolved throughout the years. At some point in the future (most likely a few generations down the road) the newer Mini will be drastically better than the R53. Everything in between will just have small changes.
So enjoy whatever you have now!

But with valvetronic, new clutch, slightly more HP, higher fuel efficiency, and the supposed cold start rattle that I keep reading about is supposedly taken care of too, its worth it to me to wait since its already June. If it was still 6months ago ....than maybe not.
