Second post,first question!

We just bought this MINI (Zippy) pronounced Ssippy! Pre-owned O7 and there are few little mysteries. The car has keyless entry and the convenience locking/unlocking. I also see atop the tachometer what looks like a red lenses or l.e.d. However, when locked this never blinks. Are alarms standard or are the optional? If it does have an alarm should it not arm when locking?
Second question, Folding mirrors? The mirrors look as if they should move but we cannot figure out how? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I have a 2nd generation, so this may not apply but since no one has responded yet, I'll jump in. On the 2nd generation, the red lense above the dash, I believe that flashes when the emergency blinker button is depressed. I'm not in my car right now but believe the emergency blinker button is also near or on top of dash to the right.

I have outside rotating mirrors and they rotate when the mirror adjusting **** is rotated further clockwise or counterclockwise past the point that controls which mirror is generally going to be adjusted. Rotating it further then rotates both mirrors.

So here's the lowdown on comfort access (this took me a while to figure out): When getting in and out of the car you can press the little black button on the door without having to take the key out to lock and unlock the door. You can also put all the windows down in the car and "pop" the roof by pressing the unlock button on the key once, then pressing it again and holding it, AND you can put all the windows up by pressing and holding the button on the door to lock the car and holding it. It will then lock the doors, roll the windows up and shut the roof if you hold it long enough. Oddly, neither option works the other way; ie. you can't open the windows from the door button and can't close the windows from the key. Also, when you get in the car, you can simply sit down, press the clutch in and start it without putting the key in the ignition. Thats part of comfort access as well.

The red lense is there if you have a security system installed - its part of the "security prewiring", but unless your car specifically has an alarm as an option, this does nothing. I understand that when you have a security system if you press the lock button twice on your key the horn beeps. I can't confirm this for sure since I don't have an alarm.

Finally, the mirrors do fold in however it's a manual fold. They included the auto-folding mirrors on 2008 in the convenience package but not on the 2007. It would have been an added option. I don't have it but I'm guessing what Larry said would confirm if you DO have it.

Happy Motoring!

The lens on top of the tach is for the alarm system. It will only blink if the alarm system is installed.

The alarm system is not a standard item. It must be ordered separately at time of purchase or after purchase. O your car may or may not have it installed.

Not sure what the best way is to tell if the car has the alarm installed but if you bought it from a MINI dealer then ask them to check for it next time you are there.

Look at the mirror adjustment **** on the drivers door. If they fold in there will be an indication of that on the switch. Or with the car on just turn the switch as far right or left as you can and see if they fold in.

Not sure if the 07's had manual fold in capability or not. I know the 08's did not (at least the ones I looked at)

Congrats on your new ride!

Did you not get an owner's manual with your car?

If not, you can order one from your dealer.

If so, a few hours spent reading the manual will help you immeasurably.....

red lens is the alarm, yes.. if you hit the lock on the fob and it does not blink, then no you do not have min's alarm installed on there. you can buy one for around 2hun and have them install it. not sure what they will install it for. i had one put on mine and its very bright and visual. i can see it from far away incase i have a brain fart and forgit if i have locked it or not...

Wow, I asked this question back in 2010 what a mostly fun journey. However, the our Mini Ssippy has been sitting for five years now. After, a repair to the head, basically a rebuild. The block could not take it. Long story and a not so honest indy mechanic. Life has its changes.

on my '15 R59 S, folding mirrors (manual) were a part of the cold weather package ..... not standard equipment
