My sun roof has never been noisy but at about 15000 it just stopped working and the whole lot was replaced. OK since then.

This probably should be in the Stock Problems/Issues thread, but I have had a noisy sunroof for over a year now and this winter it got really bad. Last year when I took it in, the dealer said it was normal. This year this is what they did:

SI 54 01 07 - Adjusted glass panels, noise still persisted, replace front glass panel seal, replace rear glass panel seal

Part#
54-10-2-755-851 - gasket, glass cover
54-10-2-755-852 - gasket, glass cover
54-10-7-210-652 - seal, panorama roof

Dealer told me the seals were a new part that fix the issue. I haven't had any noises since this fix.

I've got an appointment with my service guys next week. We will see if they can find the mystery screw rolling back and forth in turns

Update: I took my MINI in yesterday for a new seal and adjustment. I am not sure if the seal is the "new" style or not. They had the car the entire day from 7:30 until 5pm.

Bottom line: I now think it IS possible to have a quite sunroof! My MINI's sunroof is now very quiet on the highway and the rattle in the back is now gone!

Next Question: How long will this last? I wonder if I will need another seal and/or adjustment again?

I just checked my receipt and they only replaced the seal, panorama roof with the same part number you have listed. They did not list the gaskets on my receipt. I wonder if they should have replaced those too? I have no clue but my roof is now quiet so I guess I am good for now!

Good question about how long it'll last. Obviously our roofs weren't noisy when the car was brand new, but after a year or so, they did get noisy. Hopefully, it's not one of those things that has to be changed every year cuz it wears out so easily.

I honestly love my sunroof and would recommend it to anyone, even with its little quirks, to anyone who doesn't mind the extra few pounds...

No rattles, squeaks, refusing to open in direct sunlight etc. from my sunroof and I'm approaching 100k with at least 3/4 of those miles with the top open.

There was 4 kinds of noise from my experience.

Wind noise, rubber seals squeaking, noise from the sun shade and noise from the plastic frame that surrounds the sun roof.

Wind noise seemed to be a problem in some early production cars. I test drove a early 2007 and it sounded like the roof was peeling off at 60 mph. The salesman said all it needed was a adjustment so I ordered the roof. My roof was quiet all through summer but on really sunny and hot days the roof did not open some of the time. This was a known problem so they adjusted the roof. The tech said there would be no more noise then before the adjustment. I could hear wind noise after the adjustment and the roof still did not open all the time. The plastic trim also started to make noise over bumps. I ended up trading the car for another sports car before having the dealer look at the roof again so I am not sure if there would have been a permanent fix?

I hope after 3 years of production Mini has worked out all the problems with the sun roof because I am planning on ordering another MCS as soon as the redesigned engines are confirmed for the US.
