2007 MCS, bought new 10/07, currently 33,000 miles:

Cold start issue: dealer replaced tensioner
Rear bumper paint began peeling of its own volition: dealer repainted
Squeak from engine compartment: dealer replaced water pump (twice)
Hood scoop warped: replaced by dealer
One or two other very minor problems - taken care of by dealer no questions

All in all, not overwhelming problems - definitely considering extended warranty!

From a potential Mini owner, this thread is scaring me.

What usually has more problems...the auto or manual?

My build date was either January or February 2010 and I have a little over 2,700 trouble free miles. I traded in my '08 Cooper Clubman at about a year and a half of ownership with 16000 trouble free miles. I put 20,000 trouble free miles on my 2005 MC hardtop. I can only hope my luck continues way beyond my current mileage because I'm going to keep this one for the long haul

20k miles, absolutely no mechanical problems, just a bad dealer install on the clear bra

'08 Justacooper, 46000km or 28,500 miles. I've only had a couple of easily fixed things so far:

*the window dipper thing (new "footwell module" & software update - fixed)

*a clunking rear suspension (new sway bar bushings - fixed)

*a worn/fraying driver's seatbelt (not fixed yet - going in for service next week, they'll fix it then).

All very minor, all done under warranty by my dealer with no questions asked.

BTW, I've had my MINI back to the dealer for service exactly once since delivery in June '08. Next week will be my second dealer visit/service in almost 2 years.

Then buy something else - and deal with THOSE problems.

Just FYI - I've owned 2 Lexus vehicles prior to buying my MINI; I've had fewer problems and far fewer dealer visits with the MINI than the supposedly "bulletproof" reliable Lexus.

We'll see how the MINI holds up (as far as reliability) as the miles pile up - but so far, so excellent in my experience.

Wife's car, 2009, now has 20,050 miles on it. Intermittent cold start rattle. Not fixed yet. Too intermittent to duplicate. Other than that perfect.

My car, 2009, just over 15,000 runs perfect.

I have a 2008 MCS with the JCW stage 1 and it has 25K somewhat tougher miles. Over 3K of the miles have been on the track, the car has 25 track days so far.

The car has some smaller misc ailments but I have been very careful with the reliability versus power tradeoff.

Getting close to 40K on my '07 MCS. The same for my wife's '07 MC. No major issues on either vehicle.

Bought my Mini in July 2009 currently at 20,500 miles and no problems yet. Had bad experience with my 2004 Mini Cooper, tons of problems (but not until I hit 55,000). Hoping this time around is a better experience. So far so good!

45,000 miles on my '07. No problems yet.

Had to replace a throttle position sensor but replacing those is like replacing bulbs nowadays.

2008 MCSa - 20,500 miles. Only issues have been:

2 times in for Window dipper (spring 2009 and spring 2010)
1 annual service with the "recall" for the exhaust tips.

It looks like the hood scoop is getting a little melty - but it is hardly noticable right now. I just assume that sometime this summer it will finally cave. I think that I have heard the "cold start rattle" (more like a diesel sound for the first mile or 2) once or twice. Nothing that has me concerned.

I *have* done the seafoam treatment for the last 3 months and will continue to do it every 3 months moving forward.

That is it. Other than some minor rattles and a pair of tires (forgot to rotate) its been very reliable.

Hopefully that doesn't change now that I said something.

I still have it, it has been registered as non-op. I'm waiting for my lawyer and BMW to set an arbitration date sometime in Jun. They already offered to take the car back so it's just a matter of workng out the details.

As far as problems, here are is a list of some of the bad probs

Car goes into limp mode, MAF replaced
terrible noise coming from clutch area - Flywheel replaced
terrible noise when downshifting from 4th to 3rd - Clutch replaced
car flooded - they tore the entire inside of the car out - misaligned compressor water was coming back into the car

Car was in the shop for more than 65 days in the first 10-12 months. All repairs were performed under warranty.

Got mine last August just passed 10k miles. Zero problems, one of the most enjoyable cars I have owned. I will buy another after I wear this one out.

09 MCSa about 8230 miles. Only problems were tach rattled between a certain rpm and trunk rattle. Both fixed under warranty. Also had the headlights ajusted up without blinding people and it made a huge difference at night. I swear the headlights come from the factory ajusted to low because it seems like I am driving with my brights on now
