R56 Where to get an R56 Tool Kit
Where to get an R56 Tool Kit
My 2007 MCS came without the jack and lug wrench.
At the time, this was 2nd build wave of R56, there was much confusion at MINI over whether you were supposed to get one or not. I think what happened was BMW said "no" and then changed their tune when people got upset.
Now that I'm thinking of switching to non-runflat tires, I want a jack. Preferably a nice, simple OEM one that'll fit in the styrofoam doohickey, along with a lug wrech, preferably. I figure this thing's GOT to have a part number somewhere.
Anyone know offhand?

I'd find another jack. I used the OEM one to change my wheels in my garage, and the thing is scary-flimsy, even for that simple chore on smooth, level ground. And it's likely to have a stratospheric price, just because it has a BMW/Mini part number.
It is a scary thought to think that little thing will be holding up your car, but I think it does fine for just changing a wheel. The jack is BMW part #71121501930, and the lug wrench is #71126779731.
I'm sure you can find it cheaper or a cheaper version, but the jack averages about 80 bucks.

The wrench seems to go for about $15.

EDIT: Definitely ask the dealer to give you the parts first before ordering them online. There is no reason BMW should have skipped out on giving them to you (besides them pinching pennies).

Thanks -- I'll check into options. It'd have to be something I can carry with me in the tool kit space. The lug wrench I can manage, I've got a socket setup that's more than strong enough to do the job, and a torque wrench at home. But finding a compact jack is more difficult.
As for the dealer -- the car's coming up on three years old next month, I don't think I could get the dealer to throw in free tools this late. I even knew there was no jack before I took ownership. But I'll make an enquiry.

Oh okay I must have read that wrong. I know there were quite a few 2009's out there that didn't get their jacks either, I was thinking you had an '09, not an '07. Might be a little hard getting the tools now.
dwdyer: You might look for a small hydraulic bottle jack at Harbor Freight, they aren't to expensive and should fit in the well in the back. See:

Hope this will help.

I went looking for bottle jacks a while back, but they are all too tall. To fit underneath the MINI, they have to be no more than about 5.25 inches high. Another alternative is one of the old jacks that used to come on Hondas and Toyotas. Check out an auto part store or walmart and they can be found for about 10.00 but are a pain to work with.
