R56 Snow
I got one product endorsement: Autosocks. (Just google it, will come right up.)
I threw them on during a particularly slippery storm last week, and while everyone else was slip-sliding to the office, my car didn't slide an inch.
(I should note that I did not start the drive with them on. Got about a mile then pulled over and put 'em on the tires.)

I had an H3 before the MINI and it was a tank but it was real easy to lose the tail going around corners, even going very slowly. But it had great ground clearance and weight for going straight. Oh, it took a football field to stop!

I hate you guys.... I'm so jealous.
I grew up in Alberta and moved to Buffalo and then OH. Now I live in NC and wish to God it would snow.
I've even got my other daily driver to use....

so I'm prepared if it snows.
Of course, next week I'm shipping it to CA to get a Duramax diesel installed so I'm pretty sure we'll get snow next week.
As far as the OP's problem, I'm with the rest of ya'll.... front wheel drive small cars are great with the right tires (or studs or screws or chains...lol)
I only wish it would snow here.
Have fun ya'll.... be safe.

So it would appear the S is the worst vehicle in snow ever. I got stuck today quite a few times (granted the conditions would have done this to any vehicle but I was starting in third and spinning everywhere. I know how to drive in snow and it was doing nothing. After having 4 people push I got it into a spot at the local Dunkin' Donuts, where it will probably stay at least until tomorrow. All of you guys out there who get snowstorms, keep the MINI inside or at least in the driveway. I'll be buying an ATV for the remainer of the winter I think.
I live right near you, and I was driving through that snow storm through at least 6 inches of snow and i was super stable, especially with the DSC, which i find to work wonderfully. With the DSC and the snow tires i have a hard time sliding around corners and having any fun lol. Switch off the dsc though and use that e-brake and its alot of fun
. I was passing SUV's which were getting stuck because people don't seem to realize 4wd in the snow means nothing without the correct tires.I can't tell you how many people told me there's no way my car could make it in that snow storm, then i hop in my car and off i go, didnt get stuck one
Bottom line: Get some winter tires!!! I highly reccomend blizzaks, your car will feel like a snow mobile, i'd say can handle any ice + snow as long as your mini has clearance over it
We just got our first big snow dump of the winter here in metro-Detroit. My Mini is fantastic in the snow with my Blizzaks. My fiancee and I have a huge laugh as we pass big 4x4 trucks and SUVs in our little MINI complete with honking our horn to rub it in. Using the parking brake around heavily right turns at intersections is a real hoot. I haven't got to do that since I lived on dirt roads with a pickup truck.
There's enough MINI haters out there...I don't think you need to instigate any road rage.
Same thing happened to me a few days ago in the big storm NJ got hit with. I was at a light and several SUV's sat there spinning their wheels. I pulled right away. Thanks you snow tires and MINI.
I got a good laugh out of that one! I just have the stock 15" all season tires on it and it does great so far!
MINI Cooper + Snow Tires = Snowmobile. I went out today and tried to see if I could get stuck. There was a car park with about 5" of unplowed and untrekked snow. I was pretty impressed when the car made it through with no issues what so ever, but what really got me was when I came to a dead stop, turn the traction control of and then started forward. Tires barely spun, got traction and I ploughed on. I wish I would have gotten snow tires my first winter with the MINI.
And here's a photo from the other day when the snow was just starting.

They are AMAZING Little Buggers in the Snow that's for sure!!
Thanks for sharing the Snow Pic. Joey D...I was going to ask if everyone could share theirs...I live in the PNW, Molly and I don't get to play in the Snow as much as we would like!!
I've been running mine around in the snow and ice here with the nearly worn-out summer Dunlops. Other than stopping, it does a good job. Going to order some better tires, though.
This is when it first started in the Smokies... not much snow but nice scenery.

No problem on the Foothills Parkway.

Backing up the driveway into the garage was the most difficult part.

I drove home in that massive snow storm a few weeks ago after I was done bartending. The MINI handled surprisingly good even with summer tires on it. All was good until it got lodged into a snow drift which took a half hour to get out off.
